nvidia 1080 simply not enough for 1080p gaming

bakidota

yeah it is 2017 and still we don't have a mainstream graphics card that can push 144 average frames per second. And YES i say 144 because i only game at 144 hz.
Triple A titles simply cannot push 144 frames which is a shame,

what do you guys think when are we going to have a mainstream card that can play triple A titles at silky smooth 144 heartz`

At least it gives you more than 60fps.

Playing Black Desert Online at 20-40fps sometimes because game is to badly optimised :(

Add another GTX 1080 and you should get your 144fps.

it is though.

there also other issue which could be at play like game engine limits for example, World of Tank Bigworld engine (lovingly  named Bugworld world by everyone else) is capped at 127 ish FPS. my 1070 can do that max at 1440p.

Never. Games will keep getting harder and harder to run. Thus is the cycle of PC gaming.

Play around with the settings a bit then. With everything set to high, of course it wont run 1080p 144hz. There are several settings that make negligible visual changes at huge FPS costs. If you tone down several of these FPS hogging settings, you can easily get 144hz while hardly worsening the image.

Unfortunately, it isn't a matter of "can the tech push the frames?" as much as it is "will everything come together for the best performance?".

If you're on PC, you can lower settings to get the performance you want.

how do you manage to not play 144Hz maxed out with a GTX 1080? i can do that in most games with my freaking 970!

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

If your card really can push 144 in 1080p the might be something wrong with it, if the ain't maybe the reset of your pc is bottlenecking it. If not have you thought about SLI?

My 1080 only got near those frames in one new game but that was at 1440. It does ok on 1080, using 3 of them anyway. And only at medium settings on a game that came out years ago.

Again people with "genious" clains?

Ofc you can game 144Hz easy, just dont expect ultra settings. Ultra does not make sense anyway.

And some games dont benefit from the 144Hz, like the witcher or dark souls. So it is not a problem to turn the settigs up in these games, because it is worth it.

Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.

If you don't think the Witcher 3 benefits from 144hz, you never played it.

i've tried witcher 3 at 60 fps capped and at 90fps and it makes a ton of difference

i want to play on ultra settings because witcher 3 on ultra looks amazing, even with disabling hair works im still far from 144hz stable, people want to play 4k these days but the hardware is not even cappable of playing triple A titles at 144hz  1080p(ultra of course)

I'm sure most games "benefit" from higher framerates but a games such as Witcher doesn't really benefit much. Coming from someone who has played that game on low-medium-high-ultra at 1080p and DSR 4K on both a 960 and a 1080. More FPS is nice but for a game that slow paced and open world with that much visual beauty, I (and 99% others) would much rather 80 FPS on ultra rather than 144fps on low or whatever it takes to push those frames on that game.

Keep in mind that not all game engines are open end in terms of fps. So there can be a cap somewhere before 144Hz because the game engine is to slow
