A request to Luke/Jon/Jake when you guys do Ryzen benchmarks: please include the Civilization 6 AI benchmark. This very useful for those of us who primarily play CPU bound games.

yes they plan to release them sometime later this year.

Thanks, that's great news!  Why no quad core CPUs?  While I love AMD's pricing on these new Ryzen CPUs, people don't have to have an 8-core CPU to game.  AMD seems to have completely forgotten about those of us who are into budget PC builds and gaming.

they are supposed to have 4 core variants of the ryzen chips so i wouldn't worry. more info will probably released on those in the coming weeks.

They got the 1800X to 5.1GHz on LN2 already.

may I also add that it's on all 8 cores too?

SPARTA

But seriously, we NEED proper BENCHMARKS, that don't just look at Multi-threaded processes (Linus himself has shown time and time again more cores isn't always a good thing even for video encoding) and we need to see what kind of Overclocks can be achieved using regular cooler, like an H100i V2 (since it took LN2 to get to 5.1Ghz)

I'd get it, but CPU+MOBO+RAM would cost me close to $1000NZD sooo... no.

Why no Quad Channel Memory to boost things up even faster?

Where is the GPU line up of AMD ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8tDaPLHxiE ),

meaning AMD CPU & GPU versus Intel CPU & GPU?

Just asking / wondering :)

Unless everything is just started today about the Ryzen, than I / we have to wait a few more days to see that "battle".

I've preordered the 1700X and Asus X370-Pro motherboard to replace my 4690K + MSI Z87-65.
Plenty of life in the parts, but I discovered a need for VT-d which got flipped off on the i5 for some reason.

I love this so much people might actaully go for the 8 core maybe. I know I will, compared to my i7-4790K, for an extra $100USD I can go to a full unnecessary 8 core CPU!!

Awesome video Linus and Co.

Definitely eyeing the R7 1700X. But I'm going to wait for independent testing in environments not controlled by AMD :P

Considering doing a black-red-orange color theme though if I go Ryzen.

The performance is looking solid but I don't know if I have much interest in the 8 core line ups.  Definitely going to wait to see how the 4 or 6(?) core variants hold up price/performance.  It's real easy to blow Intel's pricing away when we all know Intel is pricing these chips this way because they can but how well does Ryzen compete once we start getting to the low end of the stack and pricing is much more cutthroat?

Feature wise they will certainly compete with overclockability, PCi-E lanes and their hyper-threading equivalent on all models but the big question is going to be clockspeed.  Are we going to see a 4.0 GHz chip at the high end of either the 4 or 6 core stacks?  That will be the deciding factor for me personally whether or not to splurge on an 8 core or to settle for something more in the middle.

Will bring some much needed competition into the CPU market.

I'll probably end up buying a 1700 or 1700x. The 8350 is a great CPU but it's time for an upgrade.

Great video, as per usual.

On the flip side I feel a LOT better (as I did when I bought it) than 4c8t

That feeling when you bought a 7700K a month ago. Ehh, got it for $250 so I'm not bugged by it and I kept the same motherboard.
