Upcoming System Build Guide - Help us choose the best hardware!

LinusTech

Hey Guys, we're planning a system build guide for AMD sometime in the next month or so and I wanted to get the community's feedback on how we should configure it. We're trying to create the best bang for the buck value gaming rig.

We're starting with an AMD 6800K APU, and we're planning to use an mATX ASUS FM2 motherboard, but beyond that I'd love to see your picks for the best possible value.

We're planning to go with onboard graphics for this one so bear that in mind when you're putting together your configs. I don't want to see $200 cases

The emphasis is on reliability and quality on a budget. Upgradeability for the future is also nice to have, so cases that have support for adding a graphics card later on would be great!

Edited by LinusTech
Alright everyone! Thank you for the suggestions. I will go through this and figure out exactly what we're going to build

Why no FM2+? In that way there will be more room to upgrade later.

When you mean bang for buck do you mean, $ per fps?

I've personally built before in the Fractal Design Core 1000 and I would recommend it for anyone building a cheap computer. It has no special features, but for a cheap build, I don't think there's anything better :)

Computer Specs (The Space Fridge):

CPU: Intel i5 3570k | Motherboard: MSI Z77A G45 | RAM: Kingston Hyper X Blu | SSD: OCZ Agility 3 (60GB) |

Asus doesn't make a ROG FM2 board.

2400 mhz ram since it actually pays off and a decent cooler.

I was going to say Arc Mini but you did the similar R4, I think its between 350D and Arc Mini? Hard to say for case. For the rest just get a semi-modular 550w PSU, Mushkin has cheap 2400Mhz RAM, 212 Evo as a cooler and a 1Tb Barracuda.

how about core since it should be cheap, Core 1000 is the cheapest case on the market right next to the Source 210 that's actually good

Looks good, but I don't see a reason for the R4, the Fractal Design Mini would me better for a MicroATX build with onboard graphics.

Second I vote for the GA-F2A88XM-D3H (because FM2+). And an Samsung EVO 120GB SSD (for speed) or a Crucial M500 (fore reliability).

exactly this, except I would up the  RAM, just because it is an APU based rig, But I don't know the budget, and with RAM prices the way they are, I am not sure if you can fit in an 8GB kit, let alone higher speed.
