Same here. I'm with iiNet too.

Knowing their history, they don't take crap from copyright holders at all.

One hopes.

Your talking about the old iinet remember there is a new board now iirc and it's now TPG's responsibility which you can pretty much assume things will be blocked.

Australian courts have always ruled against holding individuals responsible for pirating software or movies if for personal use, placing the onus on the ISP instead and even blocking Voltage Pictures' request to obtain the personal details of pirates as the court stated that the damages Voltage was seeking were excessive and ruled that at most pirates should only be charged the price of a digital download.

I don't understand what I just read here.  That actually makes sense.  What are these common sense laws doing in place????!!!!!   I had to actually reread this a couple times to make sure I was reading correctly.  Mad props to Australia for not being insane in this one particular regard.

Its not surprising if you understand Australian culture. Fairness plays a large part in everyday decision making here.

People here don't put up with things they feel are unfair.

I just revert back to ISP dns still not blocked ... just use opera VPN to download the torrent as government is only blocking the website not the actual process.

They put an end to piratebay blocking in NL because it was to easy to bypass and was't effective.

It really is a pointless exercise. If someone knows how to torrent, chances are they would know how to get around the block.

Or if some one knows how to use a search engine....

Bassicly use web proxy or vpn.

Changing your DNS works best-and it gets around the shit Optus and Telstra pull with stealth throttling, all for free.

This did't work here in NL when they blocked it, but you could still bypass it by web proxy.

It works here in Australia with a locked down Telstra router. Just changing its DNS to 8.8.8.8 (it only accepts a primary DNS) then restarting it, plus setting my wifi's DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.6 removed the block rapidly (the longest part being waiting for the router to restart). My Aunt already has it done for her though, as I was forced to change the DNS on her routers months ago because Optus was really screwing things up (constant DNS errors, long page loading times, Youtube working only half the time)

I've checked iiNet just now and they've blocked the Pirate Bay. Google's DNS sorted that out.

I have a feeling that the ISPs couldn't give two fucks about blocking torrent sites and they're doing the bare minimum. I mean, they don't really have anything to gain by it, do they?
