Download to Upload ratio

In United Kingdom 1:1 is almost unheard of. 

 

I am wondering if in USA it is more common or not ?

 

I know most of the Europe especially smaller countries have mostly 1:1 ratios and it just makes me shake my head when I look at UK broadband packages....

My "gigabit" connection has ~400Mb down and 40 up

I have some friends with 930 down and 250 up

1:1 is not a thing here, but it's kinda the thing with asynchronous DSL

Switzerland here, unless you have a fiber connection here, 10:1 is what you get.

Meanwhile also in the UK, 6 down, 0.8 up... Ping about 25ms... I don't do much online multiplayer, and for good reason...

It really isn't a thing in the USA... if you want 1:1 you're either going to have to pay for it, or you're going to have to give up download.

You get what you're paying for: most companies sell packages of asynchronous speed, and to get synchronous speeds, you need to ask your ISP for it.

I work in the DOCSIS networking world and we create our provisioning with the general rule, that for every 10mbps download, you need 1mbps upload to support it. Anything less than that you run the risk of not being able to achieve the speeds.

Real speeds are 90 down 3 up though.

Netherlands here, getting 250 down and 25 up. i don't think you can get 1:1 here.

100/20 is what I regularly get with VDSL2, however I can pay 1€ per day to make it 100/100 (it would be better if I had fiber 1000/1000 for 24 hours for just 1€)

At least that's to my knowledge, I myself have a 65M/65M from Frontier's Fiber (Formerly Verizon Fios) Though atm im drunk af so I could be wrong about fiber connections and limiting there of.

Consumer internet in the US is almost always asymmetrical. I've had 5/0.5, 15/1.5, and now have 60/5. Google fiber and a few other less common services are symmetical but only in a few cities. Businesses and universities who pay for business plans are typically more balanced, I get 600/600 at my university, business internet might get option like 150/50 or better.

 

For the vast majority of people in the US we get asymmetrical service with a ratio often around 10:1.

I feel like virgin are bad for their upload speeds.

 

Virgin speeds are: 200MB Down / 12MB UP - 150MB Down / 10MB UP

10:1 for most, 1:1 if you have fiber here in the Netherlands. Most ISPs advertise 1:1 ratios though, with a little asterisk saying you get 1:1 if you have fiber.

Here in mexico there is a conpany Called Axtel that offers paralel 200Mbps via fiber. Telmex, the largest telecoms company in Mexico, has a wider fiber network, but they don't offer more than 100Mbps up and 20Mbps down. 

What I don't get is why nobody offers Gigabit internet if they all have lots of fiber across the three big cities (Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey).

Good news kinda, BT openreach should be offerening 330:50 to most of the UK by 2020. Its been tested in Cornwall and is coming to public homes and business in 2017.

Im from slovakia (living in UK) and I hear a lot of people having 1:1 Bratislava, Kosice.

My knowledge of fibre is same, even Jay2cents said the same thing (true fibre is 1:1). This is what pisses me off personally, they call it "fibre" when it is partly fibre... I hate marketing
