Which GPU should I get for £300?

Okay, because Christmas is just around the corner, I am going to be upgrading my GPU, but I do not know what to get... I have a budget of a maximum of £300 (Which means a GTX 1070 is out of the question) but I cannot decide on what to get.

After about 2 months of looking at different models from both AMD and Nvidia... And I have come to the conclusion that there are 4 I can choose from.

Nvidia:

Asus Strix GTX 1060 6GB OC Gaming

EVGA GTX 1060 FTW+ (I've ALWAYS been a fan of EVGA)

AMD:

Asus Strix RX480 8GB OC Gaming

Powercolor Red Devil RX480 8GB

Now, I know the GTX 1060 is more power efficient and is better in some titles. It also has ShadowPlay and other Nvidia 10xx series bonuses. But the RX480, although being more power hungry, has better performance in DX12 and is only going to get better with Driver updates.

In short, can you guys help me choose because I do not know what to choose. My current specs are in my Signature, and the games I will mostly be playing are GTA-V, BF1 and The Crew. I will also be buying a 2560x1080 monitor soon, but currently running at 1600x900.

Many Thanks

 - Joe

Amd now have a Relive feature, pretty much the same as Shadowplay.

If you do end up going for a 480 i'd personally get a sapphire nitro or XFX card, they both make really good 480's

1060 is worth it, less VRAM isn't an issue, and the features you gain are way worth it.

I would grab the EVGA one.

Since less performance isn't always a dealbreaker.

If you're getting a new monitor soon go with a 480, then it makes sense to grab a freesync monitor.

I picked up the gaming x version of the 1060, it was well worth the money over the 480

Would rather go for the RX 480 just because of crossfire... Other than that, the 1060 and the RX 480 are pretty much as good as each other! Also, I would rather look into the Sapphire RX 480 since I personally think they make the best AMD cards for their price...

I personally have the Asus Strix GTX 1060 6GB OC Gaming  and I can recommend it to you without any doubt.

I would say 1060 6GB, but both GPUs are good / trade blows. That being said, do check out the used market, you might find a 980 Ti for a good price like I did. My brother upgraded from  780 Ti to a 1060 6GB (Gigabyte OC)...the card does not run that hot at all, you don't need too crazy of a cooler for it. You just want to get it as cheap as you can (without resorting to the single fan Mini ITX cards)

How?  They perform the same.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

With nvidia, don't the memory go further on nvidia cards because of their memory compression? So it makes the extra 2GB on the AMD card pointless? Right?

Although crossfire is a nice idea, i don't have the room on my board because of it being a M-ATX, and then me having a PCIe to M.2 with a Samsung 960 256GB (Yes, I may not have it yet, but it is to come)

From what i can find, no, it improves the bus speeds, But remember that the 980ti the last gen flagship only had 6gb of vram, and it was more than enough at the time, it still is too.
