Got this machine in today at the shop...

It still posted, but it fucking stinks.

The capacitors have been badly damaged, some of them are missing:

What a shame, it was an i7 4810MQ. Oh well, not my loss...

That's unfortunate! At least the CPU is socketed so if they wanted it could be replaced!

Please quote me if you are replying so that I get a notification. Also, mark my answer as "correct" if I've answered your question :)

well it's a good rule of thumb to just avoid conductive paste since the benefits are minimal if any, but any idiot who knows enough to disassemble a laptop and get it back together properly should know better than to use conductive paste with exposed contacts like that

At least it can be replaced-if I was still using my old laptop with its Phenom II N970 I'd risk it, then if it failed I'd try a pin mod for the original P920 to get it running at the same speed (it is the slowest Phenom II X4 mobile CPU after all).

...How do you even get conductive pastes these days?

I never had some of it and it's actually difficult to get where i live.

Anyway, it's sad but oh well, better him than me.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

Rip, I wonder if the slight conductivity of AS5 is enough to short circuit something :P (well looks like it's MX4 for all GPU related stuff and AS5 for CPU till I run out of AS5 and MX4 only ;))

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Liquid metal, and then there are the capacitive ones such as AS5 which can be as damaging.
