Gee, my first build...I recall 16mb (yes, megabytes) of RAM was like $400 and my case was beige, because every damn case back then was beige or some sort of shade of brown. I also remember adding in a 14.4k modem and thought I was boss going into BBS's with my lightning fast connection. I definitely had a hard time sleeping, not because of excitement, but because all 80mm case fans at the time sounded like a hair drier on high.

My first build was the best!

Wasn't very powerful, but I learned so much from that experience. Even though the computer's fried, I still keep it in my basement. Sometimes open the case and look at how noobish I was before LOL.

Cooler Master Storm Trooper Case

ASUS P8Z77-V LX Motherboard

EVGA GTX 680 2GB GPU

Corsair HX850 PSU

Cooler Master V8 CPU Fan

Corsair Vengeance 16GB RAM

That's it! u liek?

Hmmmm, my first build was an Intel system, and IIRC, it had the following parts...

Intel P3 933mhz

Some ruddy MSI/Abit Intel board, can't recall now.

2x 512MB KVR DDR400 or DDR333 (or something like that)

Inno3D GF2 MX400 64MB (IIRC)

All other parts were a blur, can't remember even if my life depended on it. The build after this was my first AMD rig.....AXP 2800+ Barton/Abit NF7-S (would you believe I still have this rig?)

I built my first computer one or two years ago (I think that I built it about 3 months after the FX series of CPUs came out.) So yes I remember it very well, mainly because I still use it. lol. But yes, when I was building my computer I was very excited, though i had to wait a few days after the parts arrived because I had some tests.

My first is the one I built for my brother-in-law, 2-3 years ago, took a week to convince my family that custom built options were the best to get exactly what you want, as opposed to factory-built. They took forever deciding at retail stores. I had it bought and built in a day.

Second was my own rig which I'm using now. Only change I plan on making to it is a new case which I'm getting on Saturday (Lanboy air, been searching everywhere for it, finally found a yellow one in stock. Going to be modding it to a blue theme).

I'm still using my first build. What I so remember is being extremely frustrated because the monitor only cam with a VGA-DVI cable and the monitor itself only took DVI in and I had no vga out on the GPU or an adapter as a temporary solution. What's even worse it was the beginning of the weekend and I only had time to visit one shop, which was Scan, the biggest computer store in Malta... which didn't have any DVI-DVI cables... *facepalm*. So since I had no way of actually getting any display to work with my PC I had to wait 2 days before I could actually do anything other than stare at it.

These guys are making me feel old. My first build was on an 800mhz AMD proc based system with an ATi Rage 128. I think my HDD was maybe a 40gb unit.

I'm using my first build as well, built about 1-2 years ago now?

I've since changed the GPU and case(GTX 550ti to 7870 and a CM HAF 922 to Bitfenix Ghost).

I want to replace it all, or at least some parts of it, but I may fear me upgrading will never end!

I do have older family computers. P3's, athlons, etc. I have some 20GB and 40GB drives somewhere in a box.

Whoa Nellie! Looks like I'm the one who'd started out earliest........more than 12 years ago. I'm sure there are some who had started out before me (there's gotta be!). But before my Intel P III 933mhz build, I recall using a 286 followed by a 486, didn't build those of course, they were basically white box prebuilt.

My first build was back in 2001 or 2002, if I remember correctly it was a AMD of some sort, other than that I don't remember. Now, my first desktop that could be called my own my mother bought me back in 1988-ish for my 14th birthday. She bought a $1,500 Tandy from Radio Shack that was a generation behind, I barley used it because it wouldn't run most software of the time and it didn't even have a hard drive in which the modern generation did. It was the worst $1,500 ever spent. Before that we used Apple green screens, although I never owned one myself. Man, I'm getting old!

My very first computer was a hand-me-down of my bro's computer. Intel duo core processor 1.2GHz, 2 GBs of RAM, geforce 8400 GS. I used that thing until about 3 years ago when I got my first job and built the computer I am still using now. Intel i5 quad, GTX 570, 8GBs of RAM, 1TB HDD and recently just got a 60GB Vertex SSD. Stil plays the games well then again we are talking console ports here.

I built mine only in January so it's still fresh in my mind. Still using it.

it was really fun but i was really nervous and scared of breaking something. Was a good experience though, taught me a lot and helped build my love for computer technology.

My first build was a Thoroughbred Athlon XP 2600, an ASUS nforce 2 motherboard (Integrated Geforce 2MX graphics woo!.. or not) and 128mb of RAM if i recall correctly, but that was a long time ago.

OK JK. My first build was with a LanParty SLI-DR socket 939 Mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+ and 4GB of OCZ Platinum DDR RAM.

Ah, I always wanted that motherboard, and it was quite a pain to get hold of here, back in the day. Always thought those rounded IDE cables and the UV was super cool.... went for an Asus A8N32-SLI for that 939 build instead, and that motherboard lasted a good long time!

These guys are making me feel old. My first build was on an 800mhz AMD proc based system with an ATi Rage 128. I think my HDD was maybe a 40gb unit.

Thats around the same time the Voodoo2 was out, right? The first card to be SLI'd?
