EVGA Announce 750W and 850W G2L PSUs.

Oshino Shinobu

Keeping in the theme of every companies putting LEDs (specifically RGB) on their products, EVGA has announced two new PSUs in the forms of the G2L series. As the name suggests, this is basically the existing G2 series, but with LEDs. They come with an impressive 10 year warranty, 80+ Gold rating, 100% Japanese capacitors and everything else you'd expect from the popular G2 series.

The G2 and G2L series are based off units made by SuperFlower, which I believe are the SuperFlower Leadex Gold units. If you haven't seen SuperFlower's Leadex units already, here's an image of one. Needless to say, they are very good looking.

The only real issue I have with SuperFlower's leadex series is the coloured connectors on the component end. If they were black, the aesthetic of the PSU would be perfect. It's about time we had a PSU that we don't want to hide behind a PSU shroud, so the G2L series is very welcome for me. Hopefully they decide to release the LED version of the P2 series as well, then I'll have a PSU for my next build.

As of now, they are only available with white LEDs, but given the amount of RGB products coming out, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring out an RGB version at some point. That would be nice, then all lighting in a build could be matched.

While it's not a performance change from the existing G2 series, I think it's one of the most important PSU releases, as PSUs have pretty much all been ugly for a long time. It's time we don't have to hide away ugly PSUs.

Meh, I'd rather see budget replacements for those, not RGB variants of already excellent PSUs.

here's the problem: why should you buy a modified Leadex unit when you could buy the original Leadex

My main reason would be that the Leadex series uses coloured connectors on the component end. IMO, it ruins the look of the PSU. The EVGA version will almost certainly use black connectors, considering EVGA's other PSUs.

This is hilarious. Both of my cases are designed to hide the PSU... One has a shroud and one has a dual chamber design. Let's just hope their caps and things are decent.

Haha, maybe it's a niche market. I'm very particular about my PSU choices. I was selecting a PSU for a rig overhaul a while ago and the coloured connectors on the Leadex series was pretty much the only reason I knocked it off the list. Others got knocked off for using a certain type of 6+2 pin connectors that are a pain to sleeve xD

I don't like anything other than black colored connectors either... For any purpose. But I personally think the G2 already is a great looking unit, and mine sits unshielded in my pc without shame.

You're in luck, they're not RGB (yet).

To be honest, as long as the lighting can be turned off if you want, I think everything should come with RGB if it has LEDs at all. It's nice being able to pick your own colours rather than being locked down by the manufacturer's choices. Good example is Asus's ROG motherboards. Before, they were pretty much only black and red but are now moving towards black and RGB, so you could have less common colours in there like a black and purple themed builds.

Cause places like the UK, you can buy a rebranded Leadex for cheaper or they are just not available as superflower branded units :P
