At a high level, there’s really not a lot that changes relative to the Galaxy S7 family. The same Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820 SoCs are used in the same regions as the Galaxy S7. While we’re still on the subject, it’s worth mentioning that Samsung has added iris authentication on the Note7 which is probably not a surprise if you follow any of this closely. It seems to work well and uses IR light to make sure it works in low light but it’s important to note that this system has a somewhat low preview frame rate and can only use one set of eyes for registration. It also notes a number of limitations in the UI but doesn’t actually require you to take off your glasses or contacts even though it suggests these things in the UI. The iris scanner also works at about 10-14 inches away from the eye which is kind of surprising and leads me to believe that this may be closer to some advanced facial recognition with a wide and narrow angle lens to capture the face and eyes rather than true iris scanning.

It looks to me like the note 7 is really just a redesigned s7 edge. It's got a bigger display, a slightly smaller battery, the s-pen, iris recognition, and USB type c instead, but to me those seem to be the main difference. The iris recognition seems pretty cool as now you don't even need to put your finger on the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. I feel like the note 7 is just an all-around better option than the s7 edge especially because of the s-pen, which can be useful. What are your thoughts?

The Note series was always a bigger version of the flagship at the time w/ a fancy pen

Last year tho, for example, the note didn't have an edge but the s6 edge or edge+ did.

note 7 will be on snapdragon 821, with 6 GB RAM and 4000 mah battery. At release it will work on Android 7!

If i remember the Note 5 wasn't available in the UK, So hopefully next models will be. But still have another year left on my Contract with my Note 4. Wonder what will be around in the next year.

-SPen can be use under water LOL. Why?

- Geh, honestly if you have a new product name it something different. We already have 3 version of the Gear VR, dont name your next Gear VR Gear VR too =.=

- USB Type C for Note 7. Neat

- Start at 64GB version is really nice. Given that VR content took alot of space. and MICROSD! Finally!

- 3500mAh battery... I still want more

- Android 6.0? Not 6.1?

- Geh, it only have the edge version... I dont like edge 

- Gif maker is nice

The iris scanner is a passcode replacement so now in order to log in you only need to stare at the scanner to unlock it.

The edge is toned down compared to the S7 edge

While I do find this phone to be overall as it stands really good, I guess you have a point. It's really like the S7 edge, with a slightly smaller battery, bigger screen and a stylus.

 

If it had some distinguishing spec (slightly better CPU and/or a bigger battery) it would have at least stood out better.

Actually that's 3500. But it does have to deal with the 0.2 inch larger size+ QHD. Still good regardless.

- HDR 1440p SAMOLED display.

- IP-68 Water Resistance (Chassis and S-Pen)

- Security Features (Samsung Knox, Samsung Secure Folder, Iris Scanner with connectivity features)

- USB-C (Is it 3.1?), 3500 mAh (Improved charging, wireless charging, battery optimization chip?)

- Same processor, gpu, ram, double internal storage, no UFS 2.0 slot...

 

I dont know about you, but i was expecting more, much more. I understand with the S-Pen, you cannot fit a large battery has the S7 Edge, but 4Gb of ram on a phone they claim to be "productivity oriented"!? At least HDR display is friggin cool... Also, speaker quality seems to have remained untouched. Disapointing, no professional sound features even included. Lets hope Samsung acessories are "innovative". Well, it does have Gorilla Glass 5, which i supose is a nice touch and the S-Pen is clearly the "cherry" here.

Let's be honest here, while I get that 6GB would be nice for the future right now it's wasted. The one plus didn't make use of it much, the phone ended up closing apps to save battery.

Yeah, I really hoped they would have included a newer CPU. So far, we only get more storage, larger screen and a pen VS the edge.

It's sad to see its becoming impossible to buy a durable (or simply not a crazy fragile) flagship nowadays, let alone one that has also a removable battery and a microSD card slot. 

 

Somewhere after the Galaxy S5 and the Note 4, actual usability has been forgotten by manufacturers.

Oh Samsung, why must you destroy good phones? The Note 7 has a smaller battery than the s7 edge... 3500 vs 3600. I was hoping for 4000mah. I guess I'll have to buy a note 4 to get rid of my note 5 once and for all. Micro SD is nice, type c is nice, iris scanner is meh. The note 7 looks good but the all Glass thing isnt a great idea in my opinion.
