you can stream 4k all you want you aren't going to hit that 1TB cap

 

TBH, i feel like this is directed mostly at torrenters.  Under normal use i doubt you will get close.

ive used 200gb in 2 weeks, i dont download much stuff besides games i buy (which is like 1-3 a year).

and i spend like a good 8-15 hours a day on my computer daily, i think everyone will be okay unless its a gaming house or some sort. 

or people that host websites from home too :(

That's my usage in 5 days, Luckily i have 194 Megabit a sec and have no cap.

Assuming Comcast can actually follow through on this (which I don't expect at all, but it would be nice) then that 1TB data cap isn't really much of an issue. You either pay the plan which has their set data cap, and monitor to avoid going over, or if you constantly are getting surcharges of $40 or more in overages, you just pay the $50 extra for the unlimited plan. Is it just, is it fair, is it how a company should be operating? No, not in the slightest. But of all the ways Comcast has fucked its customers before, it's nice to see them using a bit of lube this time. People will still jump ship to Google Fiber or an equivalent to get off the devil's dick as soon as possible, but I can think of a lot of ways Comcast could have made this worse for customers.

I was about to be concerned, but looking in Comcasts report on my data usage it has 400GB last month and about 300 for the two months before, however I know I've downloaded a few large mod packs that collectively made up about 400GB so... idk, probably will be a problem in the future, but they could roll it out tomorrow where I am an I would be fine

I have a 200gb cap. Also data is only counted against you when they don't use peering so 1TB is a lot more then you think

And yet with just some streaming and whatnot, no torrent downloads at all, I hit 1TB almost every month according to TWC

In SA I'm currently stuck on a 10mb/s adsl line,  with a 400gb anytime/1000gb nightime cap. It's quite difficult to actually utilise it and they know that.  However,  1tb should be easy to hit on fibre with p2p downloads 

 

EDIT:  Most ISPs here have "uncapped"  packages but the moment you hit the threshold they throttle you to a point where your line is unusable for anything other than email.  For a 10mbs line it's normally 200 or 250gb

Hate to say, but state and federal government needs to start suing all these ISPs. It's clear that they are not using the subsidies to upgrade their infrastructures, but to buy competitors and media companies (TV, film, web, etc). Fuck them all.

uhh a good h264 1080 stream is 20 mbps. A good 4k one is at least 80-120 (less than 16x due to scaling).

 

100 mbps is 45 GB per hour.

 

So you better not watch more than 10 movies a month.

Chicago is a potential google fiber city, so this really doesn't matter, competition will fix this. The bigger problem is cities that aren't on the google fiber current/next/potential are absolutely being screwed... my cap is still 300GB! 1TB cap would be like a dream come true. And I think that will only happen if Memphis makes the google fiber list.

1TB is not enough for 4k streaming. A 1080p movie from netflix uses about 20GB, so 4k would use about 80GB. If you watch like 13 movies in a month you are going to run out of data

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

I struggle to use 250GB a month when on a 13-14 Mb/sec connection-and that's with downloading videosm, downloading mods for games (Skyrim, Fallout 3-4, Oblivion, Morrowind), and downloading and seeding Linux ISO and some games that use torrenting to reduce the load on the main servers. And note-that's while seeding 24/7.

This is fairly standard pricing across all of New Zealand for ISPs. Unlimited data is typically uncapped, and bandwidth isn't shaped.

...which is why Australia is having problems, and why the Australian Government should have never sold Telstra (or a lot of its public services). Going private with services changes things from people first to money first.
