Days of 4GHz on air with a CPU that was relevant and really good at the time (eg, C2D E8500) are no more. Modern Pentiums don't count as they are to be blunt useless outside of basic every day machine tasks. Budget 4Ghz (not on air) BTW is the Xeon X54**, at 4GHz they easily competes with Haswell i3, and at 4.4-4.5GHz they match/exceed an i5 4440.

My 775 setup beats my 1151 one. Quite sad. I have decided against the CVFZ actually, and just going to purchase X5670s and start beating 5960Xs!

Xeons are honestly the best when it comes to price/performance and overclocking at the moment. If I had 2x Xeon X5470 and did the BSEL mod, I'd be wrecking all i5, and have something that's close to an i7 while having 8 actual cores-each with 3MB L2 cache.

Why not buy a Skulltrail or an SR-2? (What I have) The SR-2 can come really close to a 5960X.

I'm going to see how well it benchmarks with the current shitty RAM (I know its the main problem in regards to the score), but I might have just managed to figure out the safe voltage to get both the cache and core of my 4790K running at 4.8GHz stable with minimal heat increase due to tweaking the FIVR settings.

Are the Skulltrails overclockable? Because SR-2 definitely is. Stock clock of my X5690 @3.47GHz only gets about 700+ if im not mistaken, so two these would only get about 1300+ (guessing only), would that be able to compete with 5960Xs? Overclocked X56** x2 will get close but the single core performance is a huge difference.

I had a Xeon X5470 @4GHz, IMHO, the performance of two of these would not come close to if you get two X5650s with 6 cores 12 threads each. Im guessing you are probably still considering older platforms to cut down cost which is exactly what i did. And because X5650s are 1366 running on quite-alot-cheaper DDR3, the cost of a whole 2x X5650 package might even be cheaper than 2x X5470, not to mention the performance difference you would get with 12 cores 24 threads compared to the mere 8 cores 8 threads. Im currently running on X5690 @4.47GHz on R3BE, clock limited because of my puny AIO cooler, i paid around $260 for the MB+CPU+RAM, and for this price i would say that it is much more than enough for daily usage.

Yeah haha what do you think I'm doint to the poor bastard. I know I got a lower binned 6700k because my buddy is stable at 5.2ghz. so I'm gonna oc it till it dies and go get another one lmao

Who's claiming they're at 5.2 "stable"?

No way is that happening without a very high end chiller and 1.5v+ with a delid & CLU.

If you have the MC protection plan, I'd bust that 6700k's little heart and go get another one.  You will definitely end up with a better chip because the one you have is one of the worse I've seen.

Don't even need the protection plan, you can literally just roast the thing and send it in for RMA to intel, they'll send you a new one.

Sure, but he mentioned that he had a MC plan so I assumed he'd go that route since they're local.  You're right though, Intel always takes care of people.
