you can use the base clock on x99. also do you have really slow ram, because that score seems way too low.

yeah I had a few applications open at the time, idle was a few % cpu usage - ive had near 1300 at 4.5ghz before...

my ram is 2,666mhz corsair LPX

from the difference between 4.5ghz and 4.7ghz - and the voltage difference required to pass Linx at those clocks - I don't think its worth running anything higher than 4.5ghz daily.

No such thing as unlock cpu during the gulftown days. Intel introduced unlock chips for the extra price tag starting with socket 1155 and socket 2011. All cpus using previous socket don't have locked multiplier. The difference with extreme chip is they have more cores, higher clock, or more cache.

So I am thinking ill pick 4.6ghz and try and get that stable at the lowest voltages possible.

Whats the deal with VCCIN (vrin on my board) - its 1.8v at stock but I saw a post relating to devils canyon chips that it can be just a little above vcore and not impact stability?

Can the 5820k do this? my mobo suggests in its all-knowing tool-tips that this setting should be at least 0.4v above vcore.

Socket 775 don't have lock or unlock chips because all of them can be OC.

Socket 1366 don't have any either, thus why there is no Core i7 920K, just the standard Core i7 920, the X on a 980X does not mean it's unlock, the X stands for Extreme Edition. This also applies to socket 1156, which does not have a Core i7 860K, just Core i7 860.

Socket 1156 is the mainstream platform to socket 775, but socket 775 is split between mainstream and enthusiast based on chipset, not the type of socket.

Socket 775's Intel X38 and X48 successor is socket 1366 with X58, all of them can do SLI at x16/x16.

Socket 775's Intel P35 and P45 successor is socket 1156 with P55, all of them can do SLI at x8/x8.

Or K, remember the Pentium E6500K (which TBH only differed from standard Pentium with the unlocked multiplier-they had no binning).

Core 2 Extreme also know as the QX9000 series of LGA 775 Unlocked Core 2 CPU's

All I remember was during 775 days you can oc via FSB, so even if the multipler is locked, you can still oc. Locked cpu imo would be both bclk and multiplier are locked and you can't change anything way beyond its default value. This is why I haven't heard about locked or unlock cpus during those days, and only have so when Sandy Bridge came out. My old 775 Xeon can be OC too via the FSB from stock of 2.66GHz to 3GHz.

And you guys are right, there are X and K during those days as well.

dont confuse fsb overclocking with unlocked multipliers. its not the same thing. some locked multipliers can be Reduced others cant even be touched

having an unlocked multiplier means you can increase it. you can not increase a locked multiplier!

Yes, unlock multipler are better cause you don't have to touch the FSB. IMO Intel won't let me oc via multiplier? Fine I'll just do the back door way of oc via FSB and still get my cpu beyond stock clocks. QX series, yes them Core 2 Quad Extreme Editions. never knew they have unlock multiplier.
