Try LOWER VCCIN!

 

Stock VCCIN is normally like 1.8v or so I think, I did some reading and apparently because there's two sets of VRM on the 4790k you can use a bit less VCCIN because the vrm is more efficient.

 

You can use like 0.08v more vccin than your vcore and it should still be stable!

Nope, it's retail. And XMP works too. Set ram to XMP, bios sets strap to 125 and downclocks multiplier from the stock 35 to 31. Changed nothing else. Boot up and it says 3.8GHz, which is also the stock turbo speed of this cpu. (stock clock @ 3.5GHz , turbo @ 3.8GHz). When I ran it at 4.5GHz, I didn't pay attention to the ram speed though.

yes, when its multiplier is locked and it only turbos upto 3.6ghz? from your cpuz it says its at stock

Nope the multiplier is not locked. Forgot to do some bios setting so it shows the OC speed. Will post a new screen shot later on.

why did you go for the xeon and not 5820k or something? you dont have ecc ram do you? or 4 way sli?

Been using Xeons since 775, so I don't want to break that tradition. As for the 5820K, I want to be able to run 2 cards at full x16/x16 cause my X48 was able to do that. The Xeon E5 1650 v3 is a 5930K with ECC ram support.
