VA panels arent bad these days either. Although IPS is delicious as fuck.

For normal size roughly 1080p 21" = 1440' 27" = 4k 40"

 

So to notice a big difference you'd need to go from something like a 24 inch 1080p to a 24inch 1440p

Actually ideally I'd like a Gsync monitor, but they usually can't be had for under 400 bucks or so.

I emergency sold my GTX 960 for 150 bucks a couple weeks back and got a 7870 for 75 to hold myself over for a custom RX 480. Lol was worth it. I can still play all my preferred games at 1080p and put 75 toward a new graphics card.

 

Actually scrap that. My GPU was thermal throttling a bit because it's like 30C in my room and now after the AC has beend running for a while I can get a mix of medium to high settings at 60-70 fps. Damn Vulkan is nice!

Wow about 35 more FPS on average then OpenGL on a 480. Very well done!!

6 years old isn't obsolete for software. Hardware yes, software no. And the Windows 10 UI is a step back when it comes to navigation and looks-managing some how to use more vRAM+put GPU under a higher load while being flat not 3D. Also-depends on the set up for your SSD, ignoring the tweaks for superfetch+prefetch, my desktop is as fast under 10 as Windows 7. Although benchmark scores have gone down. Also, not being able to download updates when I am ready and can spare the bandwidth doesn't improve Windows update-it makes it worse. Removed control never improved anything.

As it stands I'll be needing to get the classic shell for this desktop as the start menu is outright retarded in design and some how worse than it was back with Windows 98 (got Windows 10 because of DX12-that's it-fucking held hostage by MS).

 

 

 

 

Anyway, as soon as I get DOOM I'll be trying it under Windows 7 after trying it in Windows 10. Because I'm wondering at what the performance impacts will be (if any).

Considering that the games I have with SLI support are the ones that need it.....it'd be fine for me at least. Its not like GTX 970 haven't had a large price drop (also, multiple GPU in DX12 if devs aren't lazy? Well it'd do better in that as well)

you're only considering newer APIs, and the games with the new APIs are so very few

DX12 and Vulkan are the perfect examples how bad AMD treated DX11 and OpenGL drivers

DX12 and Vulkan are the perfect examples how bad AMD treated DX11 and OpenGL drivers

Okay? But even in the DX11 games that are out there, you can do 1440p60fps quite easily if you play around with the settings with the kind of performance the RX 480 is displaying. And that's still only going to get better when the AIB models come out.

I know. It also isn't like we aren't going to use Vulkan or DX12 in the future. I have never seen a card perform significantly better as time passes

That's the thing, if people took that attitude they would not have bought 970s over 390s, or 960s over 380s.  But speaking of pity, if they get less performance because of their bad choices, good.  I do not pity their framerates, they chose less, let them enjoy it.
