How many(or how much) PC's/power outlet

So I have a few computers that I don't do much with but tinker and play with and was thinking its be cool to hook them all up. While I m ow while not on it doesn't really matter how many are plugged in, what I want to know is how many do you think I could run from an outlet/strip and be okay if for whatever reason I wanted to do that. USA btw so 120v outlets

As long as your not overloading your circuit it shouldn't be an issue most can provide a max of 1800W for a single circuit.

Depends on how the house is wired. When my father built our house he planned which rooms would most likely have a computer or large appliance in them. I know my room is wired for 100A so I could put many PCs in my room but I wouldn't daisy chain extension cords and so on

One outlet should handle two PCs no problem.

I wouldn't put more than 2 or 3 on a strip, but in theory you'd be OK filling the strip

If your electrician cut some corners when wiring your house, one outlet might only power two PCs before the breaker trips.

 

It really depends on how much power each one draws.

I don't think you have 100A. That would either be 5 different circuits( most rooms have 1) or special plugs. You house probably has 100 or 200A running to the main breaker.

I'm in Europe so I can't be sure, but I guess the wires going through the walls in your house are thick enough to handle about 20A at 120A but your mains socket on the wall is probably rated for 15-18A.  

Your fuse box may have fuses that trip at 18A or somewhere around that value.

You multiply the amps with the voltage and you get the number of watts that one mains socket can provide.

 

If you have two mains sockets on the same wall in your room, they may both pull energy from the same wires in the wall which go to the breaker panel where there's a fuse rated for only 18A or so, so just because you have two mains socket on the wall, doesn't always mean you have double the amount of energy.

 

However, if you have several rooms in the house, the room next to yours may have the wall sockets on another circuit, with another fuse, so you could use a long power strip/extension cord to bring power from that room to yours and have more energy this way, without modifying your breaker circuit to allow for more.

 

So basically, expect at least 15A x 120v = 1800 watts.

Now, how many computers can work on 1800 watts depends on the components inside those computers. When a computer starts, it uses more power than normal for less than a minute, then as it idles the power goes down and stays at a lower average. When you play games, the power consumption goes up a lot.

There's computers that use on average only 60-80 watts to work and there's computers that can use a constant 200-300 watts of energy.  Then, you have to keep in mind the monitors (about 25-40w for a LCD monitor), speakers (anything from 5w to 60w average for a 5.1 system)..

Without knowing exactly what configuration the computers have, nobody can tell you how many computers will run from that 120v x 15A = 1800w circuit. 

 

You also have to pay attention to what kind of power strips you use, some have plugs that are rated for 120v 15A or more and make you think they're good, but the mains sockets in the strips may be rated for only 10A or the wires inside the power strip may not be thick enough to sustain 1800w flowing through the power strip - with such cheap power strips, if you plug an additional power strip in the first one to get more sockets there's a risk you may damage the strip (it could overheat, start fires, short out and pop the fuse in your breaker panel)

Well if our power strips are rated for 13amps each then 13x240=3120Watts of power per outlet? Sounds actually possible as there are appliances I've seem that uses 2200watts+ off a normal plug straight off the wall :)

Here you need special outlets for appliances.

Still funny how about 700Watts fired a breaker thou and fried some of the wiring (somehow)...probably was a power surge (which it was).
