I put a '+' between the two rates in my first post that shouldn't be there, and that would have thrown the estimation off. The image shows an average of $0.1029 (or 10.29 CND cents) per kWh, which is pretty close to the numbers I first posted: 8.29 cents per kWh, for the first 1,350 kWh, while the rate raises to 12.43 cents per kWh for every kWh thereafter.

 

I guess 10.29 CND cents would currently be around 8 USD cents per kWh.

16.9576 cents per kWh  + $11 in surcharges per month + 4.1666667% of the total as a gross earnings tax. 

of that 16.9576 cents per kWh   8.679 cents is the energy cost the rest is transmission charges, renewable energy charge, distributor charge, and energy efficiency program charge all charged per kWh.

this is up from around 13.5 cents 18 months ago. :/

Looking at a few power bills ...

 

February 2016:

  • Usage: 502 kWh
  • Baseline usage @ rate: 502 kWh @ 9.9995¢/kWh: $50.17
  • Winter Electricity Generation: @ 6.625¢/kWh: $33.26
  • Total electric costs: $86.03 (this also includes a couple minor charges/credits)

July 2015: 

  • Usage: 678 kWh
  • Baseline usage @ rate: 352 kWh @ 2.898¢/kWh: $10.20
  • 100-130% baseline: 106 kWh @ 5.948 ¢/kWh: $6.30
  • 130-200% of baseline: 220 kWh @ 25.851 ¢/kWh: $56.87
  • Summer Electricity Generation: @ 14.226 ¢/kWh: $96.46
  • Total electric costs: $171.78  (this also includes a couple other minor charges/credits)

The entire bill is somewhat higher, to accomodate regulatory fees as well as gas service.

 

Our house doesn't have A/C, and we live in east county San Diego, CA, so it can get quite warm in summer.  Hitting the mid 80s in the house is fairly common, and even 90 is possible.  (One particularly hot year maybe 15 or so years ago I think it might have hit 100°F in the house.)

 

My dad has said my PC is the second highest electricity usage in the house - I think it may even exceed all the lighting combined, but I'm not sure.  He does have LEDs throughout the house.  I only have a 4790K (running at stock) with no GPU yet.  I hope he won't throw a fit when I get a GTX 1070 or R9 490.  (Maybe I should save up for two R9 390X2's in crossfire instead, and switch my board & CPU for an FX-9590? ;))

60 days billing cycle,

We have a basic fee of $0.4060 per day (even though it's not real consumption it should be calculated in the $/kWh)

We pay between $0.0568 and $0.0571 for the first 30 kWh per day

Then $0.086 for anything over.

 

EDIT:

So including taxes and fees my last billing cycle was $0.0862/kWh
