Holy fucking shit. How is selecting my own default browser and search engine considered a Hack for Cortana? It's not like it even affects the Cortana experience, 

The blind sheep response in the comments of the article really made me want to headkeybord, it's just like what apple fanboys would say about something like this.

Oh, if and when a registry hack for this appears I will make sure to post it in the "guides and tutorials" section.

Edit: I'll just play devil's advocate and say that you can turn that whole mess of if you don't want to use it. You can make it's only function to bring up results from Start menu searches.

Oh man, I just downgraded my laptop to Windows 10......... guess it's gonna be a repeat of last time- upgrade back to Windows 8.1 within 24 hours. Although............I do use Bing as my default search engine.

Wait, was there really anyone who used Cortana in the first place? It was honestly one of the first thing I disabled when I got Windows 10. Most of the people I know also disabled it while the others don't even know or care about what Cortana is.

i mean cortana is like siri, and it does work pretty well on my pc, but the fact that its now forced to use bing and edge just turned me absolutely off. i can never use any microsoft product other than windows. every other service, windows update, bing, edge, can go and royally fuck itself.

I don't use cortana anyways. I still just open chrome and Google whatever I need to search. I'm sure many people are the same way.

Anyway. By default it was going to Bing. But people used ways to make it change the requested URL to Google. As Microsoft explained, they don't have control of what Google or other search engine outputs. Bing has a lot of pop-ups information boxes at the top of search results which Google doesn't. So Cortana expects you to see the information on the Bing page, but you don't get it, so you think Cortana is stupid or not as helpful.

 

So now it uses Edge, and it will go to Bing.

I honestly never use cortana. that search button down there is for stuff on my pc and that's about it. I'll go on my web browser if I need to look up something.

i don't have it disabled. it's still operational on my pc. but i hate that it now redirects to shitty bing.

I used Siri for hands free operation when I'm in the car. Sadly, such an option doesn't exist on Android that I know of.

Google Now seems to be a pretty good substitute. it actually works well.

While I don't necessarily agree with them forcing you to use Edge and Bing, I do agree with their point that using other search engines may compromise the Cortana experience, and that allowing it to use other browsers could potentially compromise the security (but that could be fixed by allowing approved/verified browsers such as chrome, opera, firefox, edge).

yeah, every time i use twitter on chrome, its always using like 30 percent of my cpu just to open something. not to mention the half a gig it hogs up. it really annoys me. i feel like chrome isn't optimized enough.

it really updated? i never even knew that. it's been running like absolute garbage for me. some tabs are flat out unusable for me and some just randomly crash because of memory leaks. fucking chrome i swear.
