What is the most disappointing thing you have ever heard from young PC builders?

Mobile i7s (quads) are essentially Xeon E3 1231v3s or higher - trust me, you're not beaintg it in MC scenarios with an i5 - no way

I never said the i5 was beating the i7. I just said the i7 would not "crush"(beat by a significant margin) the i5 in gaming. (it would though in video rendering or anything that utilizes ht)

so ghz does not matter? Last time I checked, 3.4ghz < 4.4ghz.

If overclocking did not affect performance, then intel should have just stopped with the xeon

and it really does depend on the game. I play a lot of skyrim, and when overclocking my i5 from stock, I got a decent fps boost. That could also be because I have an AMD card, and AMD's drivers do not distribute the cpu load as well as Nvidia's.

Try a game such as GTA V and you will definitely see the i7 performing better. Especially the 4GHz one I mentioned.

As for Skyrim and performance, it's a game that uses 2 cores only - it's a CPU bottleneck likely

my 'friend': 'laptop gtx 980M's are better than desktop GTX 980's dick face'

me: '100% because they have better airflow don't they? so of course, no thermal throttle, you can overclock it to 9.8526Terehertz and get over 9000 fps?'

'friend':  'yeah becuz you see the smaller it is, that means AMD cramped more power into it and just compressed it'

me 'AMD make gtx 980's? nice!'

friend: ye. becuz amd r red and that means it is more evil than green wich r nvida, so the 980 is a evil machine while a 980 nvida is weaker becuz it is more gren'

me: fuck off

the end :D

and me and all of my tech friends laughed at him

It only matters with the same architecture. If I gave you some unknown architecture and it was clocked at 3.3GHz, and another architecture(unknown) at 3.5GHz, and they both have four cores, which would be faster?

Hate to bring back the RAM fight but we've got 1TB of it in one of our servers at work. Didn't even think it was possible...

I had a guy once try to convince me that his 2009 Macbook was as powerful as my current machine (i7 4790k, 16GB, 980Ti) because it was a Mac. What is it with Macs?

That's the point of what I said. You have no idea what chip would be faster because you're missing an important piece to the puzzle: the architecture.

Some kid told me he had a $500 budget.  But it was "ok" because his home pc had over 400 GB of ram and he could have his brother email some to him.

He never said, "This specific laptop cpu would crush your cpu". He said, "my cpu"-- which is the 47xxHQ

Anyways, it varies game to game, and it some situations ht even hurts the game's performance

They are both based off of the Haswell architecture with 4 cores. (4690k and the 47xxHQ)

Talking to a kid that thought the Fx series was AMDs first CPU.

"AMD have never produce a good CPU" atleast I remember when they were good.

Some of My favs are "You have to run 2 ram modules otherwise the PC won't work" "you can't mix memory speeds" and "You should put them in slots 2 and 4 otherwise it won't run as fast"

Edit: "you shouldn't run 12gb of ram"

Obviously, they meant Pentium 4 :D

My (almost) 18-year-old brother genuinely thinks that Alienwares are good PCs. Granted, they're not bad, but my God they are overpriced and just look bad with the whole "gamer" theme.

EDIT: My brother isn't necessarily a "young" PC builder but whatever. Close enough.

What still disappoints me, and not just kids, is that people think more RAM makes a better system. Even my parents, despite how much I tell them. IT DOES NOT MEAN IT'S FASTER, IT'S LITERALLY JUST MORE RAM.
