I don't think this article has been posted yet on the forum so I'd like to share it in case you haven't seen it:

I think this is amazing and it's yet another step forward in the right direction. Although we won't be seeing these speeds in our homes anytime soon (maybe wait until 2035), this kind of data transmission will most likely be diversified and updated to work along-side, or even on top of current existing fibre transmission methods.

 

Anyway, that's just my two cents, read the article for more information. I'd love to hear your thought on this and any general discussions about the topic in general. Thanks :)

if everyone would have fiber then the retard corporations would only sell games trough streaming all you will use is any device with a portal app connect and game, which would be terrible but they cant wait to do it, its unavoidable, only ping is an issue.

yeah, game streaming is on the rise, and with this kind of internet speed it wouldn't be hard to do, but yeah as you said the problem is with the feedback time or "ping", and also it would cost a hell of a lot of money to host this kind of service to the hundreds of thousands of people playing games because of hardware and network space. Plus when it comes to gaming I like to have offline capability, which wouldn't be possible with game streaming.

 

But if the case is that everyone has a super-fast Gigabit+ connection, then non-static server-based downloading (AKA: Private torrenting) will probably be something that will be implemented soon, just in the sense that everyone downloads from each other rather than from servers. That way people will have faster downloads than say downloading from steam's server, and steam don't have to pay for things like internet bandwidth, faster network speeds and the actual physical space to host the games and other things that come with it.

Will never be implemented by US's ISPs unless you sign a contract where you must pay 50.000$/month, accept a 300GB data cap, offer your descendants to slavery to the company and the contract can only be broken by death but your descendants will still remain slaves.

That is with Comcast.  Brighthouse gave me 200mbps as a free upgrade from 75mbps, no caps, and they upped my upload speed by 10mbps(20 now).  A lot of U.S. internet companies are actually moving fast.  There's a few companies in North Carolina building ten gigabit infrastructure for $75-$150 depending, and then there's Tennessee muni internet for $175 for 10Gbps up/down, no caps.  Mostly Comcast is the problem.

It's already happened.  There's around 100+ new municipal broadband options since the ruling in early 2015 or 2014, not sure.  But yeah - there's a huge list of them appearing.  Around 3+ a day.  Comcast can't do much right now against that.

After these new developments we contacted major ISP representatives, here's what they have to said:

 

ISP PR: We are extremely pleased with what the future holds with this fantastic research and we're happy to announce once we implement this technology we will increase our bandwidth cap from 300gb per month to a whopping 500gb per month, rejoice!

Well unless the wall jacks are 10 Gbe etc, AND he has personal 10 Gbe network adapters, he just won't see it regardless.

 

Still seeing gigabit and being able to routinely saturate it non-locally is quite a different story haha.
