which would be better in terms of CAD, and rendering?

I'm sure that the 5820K will be a lot faster than the 6700K when it comes to rendering. I'm not sure how it would look like in CAD tho, because I never used CAD software.

But shouldn't you know that with over 8000 posts? :P

5820k ofc due to its 6 cores and you can still overclock it to match the stock speed of the 6700k and even higher if u need

I would imagine the 5820K, if the program likes cores.

CAD rendering doesn't use signficant CPU power unless you're manipulating models with hundreds of components.

If you're just playing with bolts and small parts, it'll be the equivalent of web-browsing for your CPU.

CAD uses quite a few cores I believe, so the 5820K will excel over the 6700K in performance.

5820k, but not by a lot

also some programs cant use more than 8 threads so the 6700k would perform better in those cases

Yes, you're right, but while I expect him to know the answer to his own question, I didn't assume it, so that's why I was asking.

Btw.: It's pink. I can show you a picture if you want to :3

Talking from experience I'm using the 5820k, and yes, i do modelling using Cinema4D and do game development in unreal engine. The 6700k is also good but when it comes to multitasking the 5820k excels. So yeah, figure it out a bit by yourself aswell but I'd rather go for the 5820k in your case so you don't worry later.

5820K makes more sense for 99% of people. The only time the 6700K will be less of a bottleneck than the 5820K for gaming is when you're running a Titan X at 1080p and pushing 120+ frames per second. Other than that they are neck and neck for gaming while the 5820K crushes the 6700K for multithreaded workloads that can utilize it.

yeh

6 cores 12 threads

but if the program cant use them then there is no benefit, it would actually perform worse since the 6700k has better core performance

the extra 4 threads are about 25-50% increase in performance when the program can use it properly, which is not always the case

you need to be doing some extremely heavy modeling for 12 threads to be used at once...

I'm not sure about CAD, but rendering is a pretty broad term, and for general intents and purposes, the 5820K is a much better rendering CPU

I real expert admits when he doesn't know the answer and has the common sense to ask someone who does.

Sorry, I was thinking of the 58..5960x or whatever it's number is... the 8 core one.

That's the one.

I haven't bothered to memorize it since I will never see one in person, much less use it.
