Xbox One Price Drops to $299

themodernagenb

Source: http://news.xbox.com/2016/03/18/spring-sale-xbox-one-starting-at-299-a-week-of-game-deals/

Starting March 20, 2016 MS will be taking $50 off all Xbox One bundles for a "limited time". Of course, the last time they said this it became a permanent price drop, so I am confident that this will be the permanent price sometime early this year.

$299 for a console is not a bad price, and it's getting hard to compete with something that already has a controller and Blu-ray drive bundled in with the price (yes, some people still need/use those features).

Also since Phil Spencer did say he's working on PC streaming (http://www.theverge.com/2015/7/29/9061467/microsoft-windows-10-pc-game-streaming-to-xbox-one), this may be a good entry for those who want an easy way to watch media apps and to stream PC games to their couch.

For one, this is good news, anything getting cheaper for consumers is a positive. On the other hand, it's very sad that they have to sell that kind of hardware for so low.

I have an xbox one. Its miserable, the only reason why I use it is because I'm in the xbox system. There's no decent fighting games, cross platform games are 900p compared to ps4's 1080p (Yes, there is a huge difference) and its just such a sluggish console. Everything is an app, including settings xbox store and the freaking app page. They all need time to load. The controller doesn't even come with a charger, only an AA battery pack. I had to buy a shitty 3rd party battery pack and it lasts about 2 hours. No way im spending 30$ on the microsoft play and charge kit.

I just hope microsoft don't mess up the next generation of consoles. In my opinion if you're neutral about playstation and xbox, get the ps4. Its just in every single way better.

If they drop the subscription I wouldn't mind buying a Xbox One/PS4. $50-$60 can get me a lot of games on a Steam sale.

If you look at minimum wages in both country, it would take the same amount of time to get an XBone.

It's just that we're tired to see our dollar go down. Look at that graph ! But at .77$ US, we've seen worst...

Why do I feel like the lifespans for the current gen are going to be much shorter than previously? Both are hinting on major upgrades soon - MS more than Sony.

I love the 360 ecosystem but didn't get a Xbone. Playstation has pretty much been the same thing but higher specs per generation (which works). Hopefully Microsoft can survive this shitty generation and come back strong. [I don't mean MS will go bankrupt just that they will move all focus to PC instead after the One]

But controller-wise, Xbox has always done it better :P I saw those 2 new controllers and tempted to get one..all 3 colors look so good

To be fair, in the UK, your price includes VAT - or taxes. Ours does not. Taxes are ontop of the list price. So, in Ontario, it's still not exactly $471, it's pretty close at about ~$450 (399 x 1.13 for 13% taxes).

We complain because our dollar took a shit all over itself and had to run inside and hide :P 2-3 years ago, our dollar was at parity with US (or above). And add insult to injury, often despite the higher priced US dollar, after exchange, we still pay more.

I mean, we're not Australia, but hey, I can complain if I want to :P

no point in getting a Xbox anymore now that MS is looking into their "unified Windows platform".... where most of the exclusives come to PC anyway....

They're end game future plan is to have a PC which is branded as "Xbox" and it will have Good specs and run the Windows 10 like it is doing with the Xbox One except it would run straight up Windows 10, no custom OS based off of Windows 10.

Eh around black friday/thanksgiving I got my PS4 for $250 but actually didn't pay anything because Best Buy had been running a promotion that ended on Black Friday or the day after that if you activated a new Galaxy S6 on any carrier (besides T-Mobile because Best Buy can't activate T-Mobile in store) you'd get a $250 gift card for each line activated, since we were activating two lines we got $500 but we used like $106 for taxes and two cases and then the rest got a PS4 and Fallout 4 but ended up only paying $20...
