Intel announces Skull Canyon NUC. I7 6770HQ, 32GB of max RAM and eGFX support.

The Skull Canyon NUC.

 

Today on a press release at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) Intel has announced the a new NUC PC codenamed Skull Canyon its powered by an i7-6770HQ with Iris Pro 580 graphics and up to 32GB of DDR4-2133. Its also the first device that support all the features found in USB 3.1 on a type C connector, like 10Gbps transfer rate and DP 1.2 support, also Thunderbolt 3 @ 40Gbps (only on a active cable connection) though not at the same time, so you can't use USB 3.1 speeds and use a DP monitor and vice versa, still that's a bit impressive, it also has full HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 connections and the best part is that it has official support for eGFX devices via TB3 such as the Razer Core enclosure, so yeah this tiny PC can have the horses of a high end rig.

 

But wait! There's more!!! This baby also features 2 M.2 slots with NVMe via PCIe x4 connection, so you can get that sweet 3GB/s transfer via RAID 0 if your a maniac, or be safe and still have crazy fast speeds via RAID 1. Connectivity is suplied via a Intel Dual Band AC 8260 (802.11 AC) and Bluetooth 4.2 and an infrared sensor will let you use your favorite remote control if you set up the Skulltrail NUC as a media server. All of this fits inside a enclosure with a capacity 0.7 liters in size and comes with the faceplate a plain black matte (yes no shitty piano black gloss that crappy as soon as it gets touched) one or the aggressive skull pictured above and third party plates can be made easily similar to the Fury X plates.

 

It will be sold in 2 SKU's one barebones for 650$, and another with 16GB of RAM, 256GB SSD with a pre-installed copy of Windows 10 for 1000$, Pre-orders will be up on Newegg in April 2016 and Ship on May 2016.

Okay, that is one beastly NUC, it might have a Laptop CPU but it has the best laptop CPU which is not that much slower that a 6700K at stock speeds but is still pretty beastly for gaming when you connect a GPU to it since most games now days aren't very CPU intensive but GPU. CAn't wait for reviews of this thing, even better if LMG gets its hands on one.

Pretty much what the second SKU has, so the barebones doesn't have RAM, storage and a Windows license included.

Can anybody fill me in on how well the Intel Iris Pro 580 graphics are supposed to perform? I took a minute to look around, and I can't find a benchmark or set of benchmarks.

I believe it's a stock GTX 750?  Or 750ti.  Something like that.  Either way - this Nuc with 32gb of Kingston Impact sodimms, two 950 Pros or Revodrive 400-1TB, and then the Razer dock with a 980ti and you pretty much replaced your damn desktop with a dock and a Nuc the size of a phablet.
