It also likely largely depends on the end-use environment the disc is in. I doubt a disc will be unreadable any time soon for the average user unless it's abused.

i know man i watched it with my nephew the other day and they even took ringo star out!! and the guy they replaced him with doesnt even try to sound line him just not the same now all these classic cartoons ruined with cgi

I have the same DVD drive in my rig (and then an older one I bought 4 years ago), and although it seems like I rarely use it, I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

 

Shit, I was thinking about getting the blacked-out Blu-Ray drive ASUS makes and STILL keep the DVD drive in, even though it would be a PITA.

I still have my copy of MS-Dos 4 on diskette. ;)

 

Off topic, I found a full fledged MS-Dos App for Windows10 PC and Mobile freaking sweet. xD And it works flawlessly (as far as I can tell)

I have one but it is a Blu Ray burner as DVD look horrible compared to Blu Rays and my internet isn't fast enough for HD movies streaming

When I bought my Define S I was extremely surprised when it didn't have a 5.25" bay in it... then I realized I haven't had to use a CD/DVD in years so I knew I wouldn't miss it.

I still have a CD drive in my rig for old times sake. I don't even use it at all. Back when I actually had to wait a loooong time for a damn game to install from the CD xD

I removed my optical drive when I have replaced my generic case to a CM690 II back in 2010 or so, didn't like the look of the WHITE Samsung DVD writer on my new black case so I just removing it, 2 years ago when I got my Corsair 450D the decision was even easier as Corsair Obsidion case's have a 5.25" cover that is wider then the bay itself which just ruins the whole point of the brushed aluminium front. 

TBH I do have an external dvd drive, nothing fancy, just a lite on slim drive that was removed from a laptop when installing a second hdd bay, ordered a 7$ case for it and it does the job when needed.

I still use an optical drive about once a month. That's how often I rip backups of Bluray discs so I can put movies on a drive to have them accessible on my xbone.

Well i occasionally use my optical drive for watching movies, 1.4MB/s isn't that fast for 1080P stream...

Most of the time i use it to install old games.

Well, I'm still using my DVD drive. Mostly for installations and backup. It's true that optical media are declining, but for some reason I can't imagine a world without music CD's and stuff.... MP3 is not acceptable for me If you want a Hi-Fi audio experience for instance...

DVDs will still be around, not everyone has a fancy high speed internet connection and some have bandwidth cap so downloading games is not a option.
