Is dusting with a paintbrush safe?

Recently I have been discovering how good it is to dust things off using a clean paint brush (a new one which has never been used). It did a great job with cleaning up my keyboard (K70 RGB), and I was wandering if it would be safe to use this inside the PC. Will it have static that will kill the components or will it be okay? This will mainly be for me to clean up the back plate of my GPU (ASUS DCU II R9 290x) because it is getting dusty.

Nah, should be alright. I frequently use a make up brush on mine. Just make sure it's clean and dry first.

Make up brushes and paintbrushes are different.

By memory, I'm pretty sure some painbrushes are more bristly, while makeup brushes are softer.

I have read that nylon brushes will create static and possibly harm your components. I heard this after I dusted my gpu backplate off. I would be careful, I didn't notice any damage but I'm not planning on doing it again.

I use some cheap home depot detail brush to get up, in, around, behind, etc. ALL over my PC and electronics. No issues so far and I have been using it for +1yr

 

I even got lazy awhile back while painting my trimmings and ended up using my dust brush for the details XD. I STILL use it for dusting! (cleaned it up proper but still specks of paint in it)

As others have suggested it can potentially cause static, there are ESD safe brushes designed for cleaning PCB's and electronics.
