Best GTX 980 Ti Variant?

Hello everyone! Currently building a new PC and want to find THE BEST GTX 980 Ti variant on the market. My main use with be player major titles such as Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid 5, Rainbow Six: Seige, and many more at MAX settings. The resolution I will be gaming at is 1440p. There is no set budget. I'd go for the EVGA K|NGP|N 980 Ti if you want the best.

The actual ingame performance will likely not be noticeable between most of the variants as the delta when overclocked is likely just a few frames. Because of that, it would be better do decide on other factors like price, noise levels, and temps.

From what I've seen, the 980 ti's with aios on them like the evga hybrid one has a good balance of the 3, where it isnt too expensive, runs pretty cool, and is fairly quiet. It also generally overclocks well if the videos I've seen are the norm.

Is the MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G a good option?

Same goes for the Seahawk from MSI/Corsair. Apparently the Hybrid has some QC issues (not sure, just read that somebody on YT said their pump failed or whatever.)

It is pretty good, but from your original post, it seems you are looking for "THE BEST", and there are plenty of cards that are better than the MSI variant.

Well, so far THE BEST I see are Kingpin, Gigabyte G1, Hybrid, Seahawk... any others that are up there with these?

Which is best is subjective. I have the Hybrid and love it. Boosts to 1366 on its own, overclocks to 1500 on the core and 8000 on the memory without pushing too hard. All at ambient temperature at idle and 50c at full load.

My goal is to find a card that can achieve HIGH FPS on Witcher 3 with max settings at 1440p. The BEST card that suits something such as that. I'll be spending months playing Witcher 3+Hearts of Stone expansion. By the time I'm done the Blood and Wine Expansion will be out which will be as large as the base game! :)

I have the msi g6's they too out at 73 degrees in Sli both hit 1470 MHz and 8 ghz on the memory 

U got figure out if it's worth 170 more for the hybrid or the other too variations for better temps or 100 MHz more on the core

Absolute best are the Asus Matrix Platinum cards.  Below that is the Lightning and KINGPIN rivaling one another, followed by the G1, Classified, and hybrid variants.

Ok speaking from actually owning 3 types of GTX980ti's (Reference, Gaming 6G and now Hybrid), performance between the card are pretty much the same.

Of course silicon lottery comes into play with overclocking, but out of the box performance of non-reference cards are close, reference can be oc to that sames speeds with ease.

It's a matter of really what cooling and look you're wanting to go for,.

I ditched my Gaming 6G because it run's far too hot for a custom cooler, 78c when heavy going, 50c on idle due to 0db clock thing, which if a card is idling at 50c drives up internal case temps when no gaming.

Sold the Gaming 6G and now I have a Hybrid, same Firestrike results (given ther margin of error) and exact same clock speeds out of the box.

But much better cooling, 53c max on the Hybrid, no pump buzz for me (so they must of addressed that on newer card) and zero coil whine, the Gaming 6G didn't have coil whine either.

They only downside to the Hybrid is that the stock fan is really loud and can't be controlled by anything, I put a Noctua NF12 on mine and control it automatically with Speedfan based on GPU temps.

 

But like I said before it really boils down to:

1. What look you're going for

2. Cooling

Clock speeds are so easily matched between each cards with basic overclocking.

The Kingpin is only worth the money if you want do serious OC. All her benefits are aimed for that. If i had to choose again, i would buy the amp!extreme a second time. Still one of the fastest out of the box with 70°@100%Load. But i dont want watercooling. So if you are ok with air, she is a good Option. MSI Lightning is another nice but very ugly Option. What ever custom Card you choose, all of them should handle your needs well.

Check overclock.net forums to see if the MSI has any voltage locking features. One thing I really like about EVGA is they use reference motherboards so its easy to jack up the voltage for overclocking.  Zotac Amp Extreme mentioned above apparently boosts up to 1450 Mhz so that's really good clockspeed out of the box and great if you don't want to go through the hassle of overclocking yourself.

Out of the decently priced GTX 980 Tis (i.e. not the Kingpin and stuff like that) I think the MSI is a very good decision. Maybe I'm biased because I have one :D but it does a good job of cooling without being real loud.

The best are the Kingpin, Matrix, Galaxy HOF Ln2, Lightning is also real close to the top. Then kind of a mix between Hybrid / G1 / seahawk cards.

 

Matrix & Kingpin are for sure on top right now, Matrix getting lots of support right now from the OC community.

Well considering two of them are in my rig (shameless plug), I'd say they are more than good.

Buying a Kingpin/Lightning/Matrix is idiotic imho.
