Ok so it used to say who was reading what post and all that jazz and now it doesn't. How do i make it do that again?

I think the devs might have removed that feature

I think it was removed because it was too taxing on the servers.

They removed it due to the upcoming changes, whether they will re-add it, idk.

It was removed, some time ago, due to the load on the servers. This probably won't be back.

They work in completely different ways - one involves getting all members based on the thread that they're currently looking at, while the other is just getting the location from the member.

that sounds like an inefficient way of finding out who is on each post...

there sounds like a much more efficient way...

Could i try and make a plugin that scans for that specific member item?

I am sure that not everyone would like to have that back, but some people do. It could read the profile API's of whoever was online, and active within the last

on second thoughts, is the update system updating EVERYONES profile that is online?

that is a bad idea, as if someone has the LTT plugin, it will still constantly check for their username and if they are online or not.

I think that you guys should implement some sort of AFK system into the linustechtips button, so when the user has not checked LTT in more than 5 minutes(or any time amount you should choose), put them on a list of AFK people and do not check to see if they are online or not.

once website is opened again, (LTT button checks that every 30 seconds) it sends a non afk flag to the LTT servers, and is put on the active members list (not the actual active members list, the member list that is checked) and checked for once again.

This could be a more efficient way of checking, and i think you should do it.

Thank you for your input, this feature may return in the future but currently we have no plans to reimplement it.

@babadoctor that would be less efficient as we would be constantly maintaining a table of who's online and who's not (a high volume of putting and popping rows which is expensive). This forum has 250,000+ users, so we would need to check through every user every time we update that list.

Moved to OT and locked, please post in the forum's suggestion thread located here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/314050-forum-features-suggestions/page-88#entry7114123
