WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

I run an OCZ Vertex 4 256GB as my boot drive because it makes things snappy and it was cheaper than any other non-Sandforce SSD at the time I picked it up. I also have three Samsung 2TB drives as storage because they had a better reputation on the forums I frequent than Seagate or WD Greens, were cheaper than WD Blacks and were readily available at the store I buy components from compared with Toshiba or Hitachi. What I'd like to do in the future is slim down the number of drives in my system and split them off to a NAS.

I have a 2 TB External Seagate HDD which has all my data and is sufficient since I don't have a lot of data, this is replicated using allwaysync to an internal 2 TB HDD of my pc, simple, redundant and all that I need

I like using a RAID setup for the security of the data it provides. I currently have 4 x 1TB WD Black drives...I'm looking into setting up a NAS soon...

My storage setup is a 128GB SSD for OS and important programs, 1 2TB HDD for games, another for random stuff, and a 2TB external HDD for backup. I use it because it works for me.

I have one 150gb WD Velociraptor, it was part of a 4 drive NAS my step father used and when he upgraded (to WD reds i might add) I received one for use as a booty drive.

Then for storage I am using two WD Green 2tb drives they are cheap (most of the reason) and large enough that i can keep all my files in one place.

1. I run an ssd as my OS drive because I got it at a good price and the boot up time is great. I also have an old seagate barracuda hardrive because it still works like a champ even for it being pretty old. SSD and HDD is an awesome for speed and storage space!

1.   I run 1 1.5 TB seagate 1 250 GB seagate and 1 2TB WD green drive. The first two were older purchases. The 2TB WD was to completely back up everything on the others. I also have an 120GB solid state drivethat I don't store anything critical on. I found myself filling up all the drives over time. I really want more space and a proper raid array. I have the setup I do for security and peace of mind. I also like being able to store content locally vs. all cloud.

1. My set for storage consists of 3 drives on my desktop. My setup is my opinion is terrible and nothing near what I want. I have a Kingston V200 120GB SSD which I got because it was cheap, I also have a single 2TB WD Green as well as a Single 1Tb WD Green. I use the 2TB for my main storage (Media and such, as well as some of my games) and my 1TB for backups of various things. Lastly my SSD has my OS on it as well as 3-4 games and is on the brink of being full... :/ So I only have this setup because it's all I can afford... and If something dies then I'm basically screwed. :(

... See the configuration I'd love to have and is possible for me is to have a 120GB Samsung Pro as my OS with a few of my main programs. Then a 240GB Samsung Pro for all my games as well as larger less used programs, and then two 2TB WD Blacks in RAID 1 for my storage (again media and other such things) ... :)

1. I have a few different computers and they're never sync'd up to an external storage. Which makes it (currently) a pain in the arse when what I want isn't available to me on my computer. That's where thumb-drives come into play. One of my older systems is going to be decommissioned. It's an old Core2Duo which I could seriously turn into a storage system (perhaps as an interim) until I can afford a nice compact box to serve me better in this small apartment. It has always worked for me this way. I keep putting off the idea of "change".

I currently have a Seagate 5400 RPM 500 gig drive from my old laptop and put it in my computer. Money was tight while building my computer so I couldn't get a 1TB hard drive or anything better.

1. I have a bunch of WD Blue drives in RAID 0.  Mostly because of the cost.  I started my builds about 6-8 years ago and just got a single 320GB WD Blue, then each time I upgrade something (like a video card or motherboard) Ill just add another WD Blue on to it.  Right now I have 4 of them in RAID 0.  So mostly because it was cheap and now it performs pretty well with a easy upgrade path!

I run 2 120gb Corsair Force 3 GTs in raid 0 as my boot drive. At the time I bought them, they had near the top performance and were the only manufacturer that had SSD diagnostics. I ran them in raid0 for more speed, everything on these can be lost and I treat it as so which is why I also run:

3 750gb Western Digital Black drives in Raid5. Data security and integrity is important to me, and these are some of the top consumer level drives on the market.

Of course, Reds are more raid optimized but, I couldn't justify the extra cash when I built my rig.

I'm cheap, so I have 4 HDD's in my desktop, 2 are salvaged laptop HDD's. All told I have less than 1 TB of storage, ouch. I do prefer WD drives, and the 2 i've bought are WD.

Thanks for the awesome giveaway Linus!

OK so first, I have my new system running a few older HDD’s that I've had for a few years.

1x Samsung 840 PRO SSD 128GB (OS – Windows7)

·         I bought this SSD because I've heard a lot of good things about it; I also read and watched a few reviews on different sites and YouTube channels.

2x OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 120GB (The games I play the most)

·         I bought these SSD’s from where I worked before since the SSD was the fastest on the marked at the time and I wanted my “fix” for fast start-up.

1x External Seagate 1TB HDD (Other games)

·         This Seagate External HDD on 1TB I bought myself because I needed storage for my movies and tv-series, the drive didn’t do anything but to change file-format to RAW all the time so I took it out from the box and it’s now being used internally for my Steam-games and other files.

1x WD 500GB HDD (Recording++)

·         This is the first HDD I bought back in 2007, it’s probably one of the best HDD’s I’ve had and it’s still working to this day. Now this HDD is being used as my recording device, mostly since it’s quite fast.

When it comes to choosing the types of HDD’s and SSD’s I really don’t do else than checking reviews and such online. I’m a “tech savvy” dude and I take my time before I buy things.

When it comes to my setup I don’t really know what else to say than that I don’t have the money to upgrade to bigger drives even though I need it for recording. My 500GB HDD is filled up in 5 or so hours of playing (depending on the game).

Right now I’m saving up to buy a media-station with my brother so we can save our movies, music and TV-series. But it’s expensive and might take some time^^

I am currently running a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. SSD for OS and games and the HDD for storage. :)
I'm only entering this competition because about a month ago my HD started making this funny noise and I know for a fact the connecter is super glued on. xD

Anyways, here is my submission.

I have a 128GB Crucial M4 SSD, because of the increased loading speed in Windows, applications and games.

I have a 500GB WD Caviar Blue, because 128GB isn't enough space, and I have plenty of applications and data that do not benefit from an SSD.

I have a 1.5TB WD Elements USB external HDD for my weekly automatic back-up and storage of large files (game recordings etc) and installation directories.

Awesome giveaway!!

So i have a 128 gb ssd samsung 840 pro for my boot drive, 1 hdd wd 3 tb green for media and games, and 1 hdd wd 1 tb green for backups.

Originally was using 1 tb hdd for all, but update to the ssd, because i wanted to make my system faster, of course.. later, upgrade my old hdd to a new one and bigger, and let the old one for backup specific files..

I always buy wd hhd, simply because I always buy wd hhd, never had a problem. And I buy the Samsung 840 pro because it was the fastest on the market, and had the best look.

a RAID 1 or 5 would be great!

Thanks and good luck (forgive my English :P)

As cheap as harddrives are now, at the time it was more of a lack of prior research and a quick cheap grab that led me to purchase and use one Seagate 1TB 7200RPM drive (the one with all the reviews on most e-tailers).

I had figured, with so many positive reviews it couldn't go wrong!

I was wrong.

I  am a bit of a power user who puts a lot of load on the drive. It is holding out, but just. I do install many of my more frequently accessed heavy-load applications on a SSD I bought afterwords, but I guess it is pure laziness that doesn't provoke me to buy better drives.

Currently eyeing the those oh-so-smexy WD Blacks, maybe a 2TB. Their reputation for quality justifies their slight premium.
