WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

I am currently running my OS in a Kingston V300+ 60Gb (not really, they are 56GB, not 60 )= ) SSD And my storage is in a Hitachi 372Gb 7200RPM, why? the hitachi one is because it came with an old HP i had, and i bought the SSD for a faster boot.

I have like 1 2.5" 20GB hitachi drive from my dead xbox 360, 1 samsung 80gb ide from a dead xbox original (the shop that modded it switched the drive), a 120gb seagate sata drive (its dead), 3 80gb seagate ide drives, a 250gb seagate ide drive (main drive) and a wd 80gb ide. I have all these physically in, but only 1 80gb ide seagate and the 250gb ide seagate are connected xD I run this config because it's what I have to work with, and I have absolutely no money to upgrade (some drives were scavenged from dead computers and consoles, others were given to me by my dad)

I run 2 samsung spinpoint f3 1tb in raid 0

I have them in raid 0 because of the extra performance and sacrificing reliability means i need to make backups. I've yet to get a proper solution for this so i manually backup 'often'(this reminds me  ) to my cheap Freecom 1TB external USB 3.0 drive .

I do consider getting an SSD for the OS a LOT but i still find them a bit too expensive for the kind of storage they provide.

My current storage setup is only a 120gb Samsung 840.  I plan to buy a 2tb drive in the future once I get a little more spending money.  I'm using this setup because I like to have much quicker startup and shutdowns to make updating programs less of a hassle, along with the convience of games loading up a lot more quickly that hdd on its own.

I run a Kingston SSDNow V Series 64Gb drive as my OS drive, and two WD Caviar Black 1Tb drives in raid 0 for storage. I know raid 0 is not a good idea for storage, but i have an external 1Tb drive for backing up important stuff, and never had a drive fail on me yet (knock on wood). All drives were bought at NCIX, and i bought them because they were the best performing ones within my budget.

Well currently I'm building my first PC so I went with a WD Blue 1tb mechanical drive so that I could afford a suitable graphics card. Not sure how to share the link of me sharing the link (linkception) but here are my facebook and twitter links :)

Recording with Fraps I could definitely use the extra space!

I run a single 1TB Samsung F3 in my main computer, though I also use a couple of external drives (USB connected) to make backups of stuff I don't want to lose (I keep one away from the computer).

The main reason I run a single drive is that I want my PC to be as quiet as possible and for the moment I don't have enough money to put down for a decent sized SSD. If I did I'd probably just run a single SSD for applications and keep the HDD in there for frequently accessed libraries. Either that or move all the storage to a NAS device.

I am using a 2.5 250GB HDD from an old PS3 that bricked on me. I also have a 40GB HDD that I use in order to boot Ubuntu.

1. I'm currently running a WD 600GB internal HD which is actually an upgrade from a smaller and older internal HD. The 600GB HD is was actually from an external HD and I just made it internal when the older and small HD died and didn't have enough money. I currently have a 3TB external HD for backup.

I use a 2TB WD Caviar Green for my media storage because it's low power, lots of storage and it's reliable since it's WD. If something did go wrong with it, WD warranty is legendary. I have a 250GB Samsung 840 series SSD for my OS and games because it was relatively low cost compared to other drives and it has awesome read speeds! Thanks for the contest WD and Linus!

I run a 2TB Seagate SV35.5 HDD and a 120GB Corsair Force 3 SSD. I have the 2TB HDD because I write a lot of data, on a daily basis, but wanted a fast boot time, and having gotten it for $70 from a friend, also went with a 120GB Corsair Force 3 SSD. In retrospect, I wish I had just gotten a larger SSD, caughed up th change fora  512GB, or even the new 960GB or 1TB SSDs, but for my needs, 2TB is more than enough, and the speed of HDDs doesn't impact me much.

Thanks for the great competition, as always.

I'm running a 640GB Western Digital drive for my Operating Systems, programs, and some data, and one 500GB Samsung drive for movies, data, games, backup, etc.. This is my current setup for about 4/5 years, I try to manage the space I use the best I can, the WD is the main for OS, the Samsung is where my all data is. I haven't had the opportunity to change this setup, but it has served me very well.

1. I run a Sata 300GB maxtor harddrive as my main boot drive Where i have some programs and all my music and photos. I have this because this is my first build and i was low on funds and i managed to pull it out of a old Cable box. I also have 2 IDE Hardrives connected to a terrible raid card because it has a ide connector on it and i managed to salvage the harddrives for free to make 382GB. I store my games and films on these harddrives. I currently have no back up what so ever, but if i have an important file i have it backed up to Google Drive.

HUH now when i buy seagate, WD are the nice ones, well i have a SSD 120GB Vertex 4 by OCZ, hell of a drive and is clean and works fine, and i have a 1 tb storage seagate. I run my windows on the SSD and it works great, and storage is all in the 1tb seagete. A raid would be nice to keep my precious pictures. I went with this setup because is the most cost effective, and i can basically keep adding drives to it. a Raid would make it 10 times easier as it like does the back up on the drive it self.  THANKS LINUS AND WD

Running a 320GB HDD from WD, it's been a while since a have it (like 4 years). I bought my PC from a local assembler which he offer me that drive, it was a size that worked for me and i could afford back then. I haven't been able to upgrade it because of money issues, but right now i'm saving to buy some new hardware one part at a time.

Thanks for making the giveaway worldwide and sorry for my english.

1. Currently running a 500GB harddrive in my everyday laptop companion, but I also have a 1 TB external hard drive that houses the backup for the family's media files.

The reason for the setup is because I currently lack the funds to build a NAS, but also because the external was a gift. :)

  1. My storage setup is

Bootdrive: Intel 520 SSD 120GB (Best performing SSD I could afford with my budget, because 840 PRO was relatively new then so it was over my budget)

Casual Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB (cheapest internal drive, the WD blue 1TB was a bit more expensive)

Game Installation: WD Green 500GB (Old drive from previous setup, I dont see too much of a performance loss since I don't really play single player games and I know the drive is reliable :D seriously cause this is the oldest internal I have without going IDE drives...)

Back Up: 3TB WD External USB 3.0 (I needed a large external drive for back up and media storage, and this was on a great price. Plus I have confidence in it's reliability)

Back Up: 1TB WD External USB 2.0 (Older external drive that I now use for media storage only, still reliable, but slow >< )

Portable External Drive: Seagate 2.5" 1TB USB 3.0 (Bought this since it was on a good price and I needed something light to carry some extra storage for my SSD based ultrabook for university)

1. I run a Patriot Pyro SE 60GB SSD for my boot drive because I was in need of a SSD when I built my rig and I found it BNIB for a really good price. Storage drive is a Seagate Barracuda 1TB because of the flood prices last year and it was all I could afford. Moving forward, 1TB just isn't going to cut it. :P

I am currently running two Samsung 830 Pro's in Raid 0 and a 1TB WD Black Drive. I had purchased one Samsung for my OS drive and games and decided it was not enough space, we had one at work that was coming out of a server we did not need so paired them up. The 1TB drive is what is left of my Raid when a power surge hit my box frying my ups and 3 of the other drives.

1.) I am currently running two drives, a HDD and a SSD. For my Hard Drive, I have a Seagate Barracuda 1TB drive. Personally I don't watch many movies on my computer so I do not need the largest storage drive. On my storage drive I have a Program Files folder (my storage drive is not my boot drive) with all my games which won't benefit from an SSD other than the quicker start up/launch times. My SSD is an ADATA SX900 64GB, which has my OS, and a few key/essential applications. In an ideal world, I'd be running a 1.2TB OCZ PCI SSD but those are extremely expensive (from Linus' video I remember him quoting $5000) so my setup is a compromise, and I feel it is the way to use an SSD. Until SSDs get cheaper this will remain my setup as it provides speed, and also the mass storage I need. I was contemplating on using my SSD as a cache drive for my HDD, though I decided against it so I could get the most out of my SSD. Furthermore, I use cloud storage services; primary dropbox, although I am now using Google Drive as well; this allows me to access my files when I need them, where I need them.

The reason I run the Seagate Barracuda is price to performance, other manufacturers drives also spin at 7200RPM and should be quite similar in speed, hence it wasn't worth spending more money, for less storage. I know the reliability on the drives isn't the best, although for the simple fact that I do not store important information on my computer, and that all of it can be re-downloaded/installed, it is the drive for me.
