I think we can all agree that it's because PCs can't be replaced easily; most PCs can last 5+ years before a significant upgrade is needed. While people tend to replace phones after 1-2 years..

 

What do you think?

I agree. They are really not comparable things, and I don't think their statistics can be compared for any relevant data.

Or it's because PC technology isn't moving as fast as phone tech

 

I mean my computer's over 5 years ld and I see no reason to replace it

 

Als my phone gets really dented so they only last a year or so

well everyone carrys on a phone not everyone uses only 1 computer

For many people phones are a throw-away device... Only worth 1-2 years (if that). Where as many computers will last longer than that. People can share a computer, but won't share a phone, etc.

 

They really aren't comparable.

Wow, that is so true. Even recently there was news about the iPhone 4 receiving the iOS 9 update (I think it was iOS 9) and it was slow like crap..

Because Microsoft doesn't go around and doing planned obsolescence? And then the industry wonders why PC sales are down and Phone sales are up.

Because the bulk of the human race aren't gamers and or don't need computers for work all they want is access to the internet which they can get from multiple different sources now like their tv's, phones, ipads and tablets that is the reason hands down no arguments.

yup lol. I can see where he's coming from though, before I upgraded to a 6s my 5s would lag a bit. but the iphone 4 was a really shitty comparison for planned obsolescence. it's just obsolete.

Well of course iphone outsells PC...
A typical Family will have one, maybe two PCs... but every member of the family has their own phone these days.

PCs last longer now than ever before, a 5 year old PC is still perfectly good today, unlike a 5 year old iphone.

Apple's planned obsolescence and phone plans from the various carriers, pushing hard for you to upgrade to the latest model each year.
Also the fact that you won't just drop your PC on the floor and have it shatter/break, forcing you to get another one since the repair cost is just ridiculously high.

iOS 9 isn't on the 4 it's on the 4s and that phone is over 4 years old. People already tried suing Apple for an iOS update that "slowed down" the 3G in 2011 using similar arguments and the case was thrown out. If all 4s' were effected then it's a problem but a phone that old won't hold up forever.

I don't drop my PC and break it within 2 years of getting it and it doesn't become a slow piece of garbage in 2 years

Some people might not always use a PC, while they will most likely use their phones everyday. 

Costs like 200-300 bucks for 2 years compared to 600+ but forever.

See this kind of bullshit needs to stop. This is why I will never buy an iPhone, no matter what anyone says. Sorry, my money will still go to Android. I am still on my Samsung Galaxy Note II with version 4.3 (Jelly Bean), and it still performs like a charm for my usage model.

It's not realistic to expect a device with an 800MHz single-core CPU and 512MB of RAM to perform well when tasked with running an OS version and software that it was not originally designed for. It's a minor miracle that they kept it updated for as long as they did and that it works as well as it does.

 

If you want to discuss planned obsolescence, consider this - the Samsung Galaxy S3 shipped with Android 4.0.4, an OS revision launched on June 6th 2012. Its latest update was Android 4.3, an OS revision launched on October 3rd 2013. So the Galaxy S3, one of the most popular smartphones of all time, only received 16 months of updates.

That's a bit of a stretch.

At some point they have to stop supporting their old stuff, especially with how far Apple is chugging along with iOS and their new hardware. Go look at what year the 4 came out and what hardware is in it. Yeah..

I mean the Android market is even worse, using your logic. A lot of phones will not even receive any updates after two years at the most, making them insecure (even more than Android already is) and obsolete. That's just two years. Again, when did the iPhone 4 come out? Lol.
