This is probably the most "eh" upgrade for an "S" version of iPhone.

 

4 -> 4S : Look at this Siri!

 

5 -> 5S : Fingerprint unlock, how cool is that ?!?!

 

6 -> 6S : PINK FTW!

Is that the new thing? xD Didn't even knew that!

they had pink before that I believe... and it was more like "now it vibrates when you touch it" or "we put two differnt processors in it" (the same but on dif manufacturing processes) or "we put faster storage in it" people would probably be like but I can already just download more RAM...

There's an underlying mechanic here. Most phone contracts are 24 months, Apple releases a phone every 12 months. I'm willing to bet that if you somehow manage to plot a graph of phone upgrades vs generation more people would've upgraded from iPhone 5 to 6, and those people will upgrade to 7 when that comes out (24 month period from 6 to 7). There's no reason for 6 users to upgrades to 6S as the OP suggested but I'm sure the figures will climb back up once the 24 month contracts are up and the 7 is coincidentally released.

Yeah well, Samsung, Apple and other large manufacturers hardware is pretty much on par with mid range chinese flagships that cost only 25% of theyr value... No surprises, since either people have Super Duper Tvs and Cameras or they do not, and the ones who dont have are the ones who get these phones, but when they realize theyr phones arent a Google Nexus and have sluggish and unoptimized skins with barely any updates they just dont want to spend 800€ on a phone, whereas for - 300€ there are such compelling options already :(. And sadly, the people who get the expensives phones, most of times end up trading them in for the money or something totally different, like if an 800€ washing machine is a better investment  :mellow:

People usually buy off their phone remainder, sales it online (remember that Apple retain really well its value), and they buy the latest phone.

Was more of a joke my comment. But if you are interesting in trying something new, I would wait at least 1 year, until Windows 10 Mobile is further polished, Surface Phone to be released, and if trend continues, more apps. Who knows, maybe Google might port theirs on the platform (doubtful, probably will have to stick to Windows Maps or a third party one, and third party YouTube, which I am told is very good).

I guess the cool thing with Windows 10 Mobile, is that you try all the apps (that are in Universal App form) under Windows 10.

Well I might switch if I try it and like it, or my phone starts being slow and annoying/bugs me in some way.

Like every one of my friends either got a 6s or 6s+... Also, still here with an iPhone 4 and still going alright.

They had and still do have gold but they added "rose gold" which is basically pink. Apple's gold is more like rose gold in the first place. Real gold color is pretty disgusting to look at on electronic devices.

They are doing well but probably isn't as well compared to 5 and 5S era. The fact that these days you need to only spend 400-500 for a solid unlocked phone + cheaper non-contract plan compared to spending $80+ per month for plan lowers the iPhone's sales.

but the apple watch came in rose gold before the 6s(at least I thought it did I don't really care if I'm wrong), and I agree that gold looks gross on electronics, but that's just because I hate gold on anything even pure gold(except its value)

Some people do that but it's by no means a majority. I'd honestly be surprised if it was even more than 15% (I'm not counting leases).

Other than it being Pink, it has 3d touch and faster speed overall from cpu, storage and wifi.

I bet they would of sold out if they would have changed the looks. Every non tech savy person thinks nothing changed because it looks the same.

This won't only happen to Apple: all mobile manufacturers will be faced with this kinds of choices, modern mobiles are just severely overpowered for what you can realistically do with them AND software just isn't following along.

 

It's why they're going after wearables and other stupid gimmicks (curve edges! fingerprint scanners!) to try to stave off this but if your business model is a bubble, you kinda need to expect it to eventually burst: Ask Nintendo.

Other than it being Pink, it has 3d touch and faster speed overall from cpu, storage and wifi.

 

3D touch is just another thing apple created that isn't useful currently, in the future as well most likely

 

As for overall speed upgrade, is iPhone 6 and 5s slow in the first place? 90% of the iPhone buyers won't need the additional speed in the first place.

This is hardly death knell for Apple once you look at how much other phone manufacturers are struggling. LG has posted a major loss, Sony as a whole is losing lots of money, HTC has been losing money for a long time, Motorola's parent company, Lenovo, just lost a ton of money in Q3 as well. The only people making money on their phones anymore are Chinese manufacturers, Samsung, and Apple.

 

I dont see how Apple expected to sell much as the 6. The 6 was when Apple finally started to be so darn stubborn and made a reasonable sized phone, so it sold really well. The 6S is just really a refresh with a couple of tricks such as NVMe, 1GB more ram, and Touch ID. That's just about everything worth mentioning.

This is going like I expected, the smartphone market blew up and went sky high in a couple of years and now the blast is over. Demand lowers because 'upgrading' is hardly a thing now, if you have a decent phone from the last 2 years you still wouldn't find a massive upgrade for it today.

I think we are reaching a point with smart phones that the general public cant really tell the difference in hardware from generation to generation, so the incentive to hold out for the top of the line model becomes smaller and smaller.

they had pink before that I believe... and it was more like "now it vibrates when you touch it" or "we put two differnt processors in it" (the same but on dif manufacturing processes) or "we put faster storage in it" people would probably be like but I can already just download more RAM...

The Rose Gold (Pink is new to the iphone line with the 6s) though i would personally say the 6s is actually a decent upgrade from iphone to iphone then most years Siri ? Thats a software update that the 4 should of got aswell. finger print thats a small difference not that the 6s has huge improvements but the NVME, more then 1gb of ram GPU & CPU upgrades is a well rounded performance upgrade compared to the past not that they didn't all upgrade speed but not as well rounded i feel like Though apple needs to get rid of the 720p screen on the regular 6s and 16gb starting for 650 dollars is ridiculous in 2015/16 1080p and 32gb min should be standard on all high end phones. the last two iphones i actually owned were the 3g and the 4 both i loved but haven't missed apple since.

Yeah back 5-6 years ago you could upgrade every year and feel like you got a substantially better phone but now  2 year old phones have 1080p quadcores paired with 2gb of ram or could even be better and the difference to a new phone for 650 dollars is probably not worth it to most doesn't feel like a major upgrade anymore
