To all the "people" attacking someone for being mentally ill: Go fuck yourselves.

 

Mental illness is a serious problem and all this fucking assholeish bullshit like blaming the mentally ill person makes it worse. The support system for people with mental illnesses is a complete fucking joke. If what he was saying prior to his death is true then what the police did is deplorable and every single one of them should be charged with at least manslaughter because their actions directly lead to his suicide.

And that solves what exactly? The victim gets killed during the arrest and the corrupt cops get a super high profile funeral and national sympathy. Nothing is solved.

They will. Hopefully this gets enough attention that there is a real investigation into what happened. It's too bad Ian was so far into depression that he couldn't come out of it and find a way to fight back against what happened.

I know, I just don't really know how to describe it. It's what I did, and there really isn't a good way to describe it. Working through it can be surrounding themselves with people who care about them, getting help, picking up distractions such as hobbies.

 

I wasn't trying to devalue what people go through, it's just hard to describe, sorry for any confusion. I worked through it by surrounding myself with friends and picking up hobbies, eventually I became happier. I don't know how to describe what I did as anything other than "working through it" however I could. It wasn't meant to come out as an empty statement.

Depression is a tricky thing. I've experienced suicidal thoughts occasionally, and my sister had to tackle depression head-on, so I may understand somewhat. From what I've learned about it from the past few years is that people with depression feel like they have nowhere to turn, that no one is there for them. Pehaps Ian Murdock felt that he couldn't win against the police, like if he took action against them that they would retaliate and come after him again. It is extremely difficult to usurp a corrupt police force from power, and if done properly can give them almost complete power over a location.

 

Perhaps with his clout as an extremely important software developer he could have changed things, but who knows if he was thinking clearly.

Yes, but killing them only makes you look like the bad guy. Practically the only way to stop this from continuing is to reveal their corruption, and that is a difficult undertaking if they have already secured themselves power in the area they police.

i smell 99% lies, if you were beaten by cops in a democratic country you could ask for medical inspection and sue the cops for a shit ton of money, he must have done something or resist arest or being mentally unstable and cause a drama scene

Have you ever gone outside of your mom and dad's house to see the world? Talk to people? Do you like to think people should just "grow up" when faced with depression?

I can't personally talk for everyone who is suicidal and you can't ask a person who committed suicide why they did it but most think no one can help them they are alone. Everyone hates them and more various reason self centered on them and ideas around them when they can step out and see a whole world that can help them and there is more to life then a little rough patch.

Went online and it says he passed away on December 28th 2015. But none of the news media knows about it yet, just tech sites. Suicide is a selfish way of getting away from a problem, now has he ever thought about, by committing suicide, it will affect the people who love him the most? Probably not, because if he has, then he would have not even thought about actually doing it. Committing suicide is like throwing a pebble into a pond, the ripple gets bigger and bigger, it will affect those around it, but at the end the ripple disappears, the water is once again calm, and life moves on. Suicide is not the answer, live everyday to the fullest, and see your opponent get bad karma and suffer is. It's sad he has to end his life over this, rip.

He threatens suicide and then says that he's not gonna do it. Is he giving us suspense or something? I'm going to need to see evidence that the police did what he said they did.

 

Yes it is a possibility, and not an unlikely reaction to the extreme situation he was likely in. Just because some people might seek attention unjustifiably so doesn't means that's the case here: being beaten up on many different levels makes a person feel quite helpless.

I can't personally talk for everyone who is suicidal and you can't ask a person who committed suicide why they did it but most think no one can help them they are alone. Everyone hates them and more various reason self centered on them and ideas around them when they can step out and see a whole world that can help them and there is more to life then a little rough patch.

Suicide IS selfish, it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem that only harms the people who love you. Depression is something that people need to work through, there is no quick simple fix, such as "growing up," but people can get over it.

 

RIP Ian Murdock.

 

It is not: just because you might experience anguish and emotional pain at the lost of someone doesn't means that you should subject a person to live under worst, constant, never ending, never improving emotional pain through every motherfucking day of their lives. Yes families have to deal with the loss of a loved one, but just like you wouldn't wish someone in extreme physical pain from say terminal cancer would stay alive just to spare your feelings, you should not assume you have any fucking clue what is like dealing with clinical depression and other forms of mental illness.

 

Don't get me wrong is nothing personal but you really should not speak about things you might not fully comprehend: depression is deeply misunderstood, most treatments actually don't work or carry far too many negative consequences and the worst thing you can tell a depressed person it's "Get over it, you have people who love you!" that's like telling someone "Stop being blind, your family wants you to see!" You're not depressed because you fucking like it you just sometimes can't do anything about it.

We have people who it is their job to help others with illnesses. 

 

And for the most part they're pretty shit at it. You want to know what happens 99% of the time when some one has depression? They get pills stuffed in their face and are basically told to deal with it or just "talk to someone". Or because there are people who for some reason like the fucking blame the depressed person for being depressed they fall further into depression because of the retarded social stigma attached to it!
