A good flashlight?

From a store like Dicks or Dunhams, Sears. No specific budget, just don't make it break the bank. Like $50 maybe.

At that price point you're basically going to looking at any established name brand flashlight: Craftsman, Dewalt, Maglite, etc.

Lumens is how bright the light is, throw distance is how far the light is cast.

instead of buying crappy flashlight from a store you can get something pretty good under $50 from nitecore or fenix tactical

It's for a Christmas present so... Lol. Doesn't have to be the best, just good enough. Understanding that it won't be as good.

Get this, the Halcyon Focus.  I think it can be considered one of the brightest flashlights in the world.  This is what I use.

I'm not sure if you can buy them locally but I have been using a fenix flash light for every day carry for the last 8 years or so and would recommend them.
