  • If my son spends a bunch of his time learning lockpicking and staying out late that doesn’t make him a burglar, but it’s still worth having the “hey what’re you up to junior” conversation. That’s all the NCA is saying and they're trying to put it in terms normal people can understand.

if you believe in Donald Trump's principles

Donald Trump doesn't have principles.

People who have principles generally don't go into politics. And if they do, they're at best relegated to being that one guy who never wins any offices, but gets pointed to whenever people want to give an example of policy proposals that are better than whatever is actually being pushed through the legislature.

What Donald Trump does have is great talent, experience and - seemingly - passion for entertainment, which is all you can hope to gain from a politician.

TL;DR TRUMP 2016!

About your wireless project Linus - there are guys in Poland that did that thing already on a much bigger scale  :)

LOGO_WG_bez_tla.png

Here are videos the videos (although in polish):

101km https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRcDWWmF03s

250km https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgqhYHq9Tx0

And here's the map link:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zlFFp5i2GwA4.kbueQ4ZAP3lk

What they did is put one antenna on the top of their university dorm roof (a high-rise type) and went with the second one to "nearby" peaks to find the longest possible 5GHz WiFi range.

According to the last video there are two even longer WiFi connections in the world though.

If you're really going for it then it'd be nice to talk over some ideas how this can be done easily and cheaply.

#CyberChoices Video

  • National Crime Agency in the UK launched a campaign

  • wants to discourage young people from being involved in cyber crime

  • seeks to help parents/caters to spot problem signs, educate 12-15 year old boys

  • over the last year, average age of cyber crime criminals featured in cases was 17 years old

  • If my son spends a bunch of his time learning lockpicking and staying out late that doesn’t make him a burglar, but it’s still worth having the “hey what’re you up to junior” conversation. That’s all the NCA is saying and they're trying to put it in terms normal people can understand.

Original list shown in the thenextweb blog post is what was on the NCA website as well and the below paragraph was added after all the internet backlash about the list.

"Many of the signs below are just normal teenage behaviours. Taken in isolation they don't necessarily suggest a young person is at risk of getting involved in cyber crime. These are just possible indicators that your child is getting into the wrong activities. If a young person is showing several of these signs, try and have a conversation with them about their online activities. This will allow you to assess their computer knowledge proficiency so you can understand what they are doing, explain the consequences of cyber crime and help them make the right choices."

It wasn't misrepresenting what was said, the NCA website did actually have the list as they showed it at the time of publishing, I updated my opening post when they changed the list. Here's a snapshot for the 9th of December 2016, when it first broke as news - https://web.archive.org/web/20151209031403/http://www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/crime-threats/cyber-crime/cyber-crime-preventing-young-people-from-getting-involved

Screenshot incase link doesn't work.

u7OjhD5.png

If anything, it shows that someone in the NCA noticed they did something wrong and corrected it.

The Ockel computer is just the http://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Fanless-Desktop-Windows-storage/dp/B00SCBWF52 in a different form factor.

Quantum Byte also makes a compute stick form factor http://www.amazon.com/Azulle-Quantum-Access-Windows-storage/dp/B00X4O6GRK/ref=lp_13262430011_1_2?srs=13262430011&ie=UTF8&qid=1450029467&sr=8-2 with the same hardware.

I use the desktop version to use a remote VM machine since it allows for two monitors, and the compute stick doesn't. It's really great, and I'd love to see LTT tear one open and upgrade it.

Do what's right, not what's easy

At the end of the video, you were wondering why people aren't watching the WAN Show as much anymore.

The reason is because we used to watch you guys sit on a couch with brighter, more inviting surroundings, having a conversation. Now you're sitting in a dark, dirty, rusty alley out behind a Burger King, shooting off topics.

The feeling is much more impersonal now. You've said you don't care about the surroundings and people are just going to have to deal with it. Well, people are dealing with it and now you're acting surprised.

Edit: You should move the show to a smaller, more private room and bring back the couch. The relative privacy will foster better conversation, too.
