Samsung plans to get into the self-driving car industry

CaptainGazzz

Samsung might soon be getting into the self-driving car business, but maybe not the way you’d think. The South Korean technology giant has just released its plans to create a team that will develop car parts for other companies. This new automotive division will be separate from Samsung’s other three business units, and will focus on producing components to be used in self-driving cars. The press release states that the division will begin focusing on in-car infotainment systems, satellite navigation, and the manufacturing of autonomous vehicle components.

I believe it's a smart move from Samsung, especially since they already have a car division and a phone division. The self-driving car industry is a possible emerging market and Samsung can make a lot of money this way without taking a big risk by making an entire car on their own.

It looks like the giant is growing even bigger.

Is there anything Samsung doesn't do at this point

Is there anything they do badly?

If anyone can pull this off its Samsung and IMO they've got the best business model too. It'll never work if everyone goes about it in a different way, what it needs is someone to set standards and create the infrastructure required to unite the industry and push the tech forward into the general market in a unified way.

welp my life is danger now.

I was at a Samsung info night earlier this year and their CEO for APAC stated that if they think they can do it, they'll do it: printers, fridges, microwaves, flash manufacturing.

They literally create everything, they have a military branch, they build oil tankers and skyscrapers, I can continue forever. But they still can't get design right. Quality - sure, but goddamn if the galaxy isn't ugly.
