Go for a single 1440p unless you are fine with 30 fps.

Single 1440p (better), or 1080p with 4k DSR.

30 fps?

With a single 1440p monitor the 980Ti can get 60 fps in most games

With two 1440p monitor it won't be able to achieve 60, mostly 30-40.

A 980ti does 60fps on 4K, dual 1440P is more pixels but I wont go down to 30 fps though

I'd say a single 1440p over dual 1080p.

Either way, you shouldn't be gaming on dual monitors - it's not much of an enjoyable/sensical experience - so 2 1440p screens for productivity and just gaming on one would be fine and not hurt your FPS.

My 970 runs most games fine at 4K, ran them great at 1440p, and having a 1440p side screen and 4K main works great.

you should never play on 2 monitors though, 1 or 3 monitors. Not 2 (otherwise the crosshair would be in the middle of the bezels)

I think you should go 1 1440p monitor now (preferably IPS if you are not going for 144Hz) and later go for another monitor.

Using dual monitor is really great, have been using dual for about a year now and love it. I myself draw on PC as well, so having more real estate is great

It's definitely not a 4k beast - it's just better than anything else at the moment. Hoping pascal can finally push 60 fps on max settings at 4k.

I dont think people realize how much graphical power is needed for a 4k display decently. At this current time it is not worth it to go to 4k as the hardware needed is just too expensive. When the next few generations of GPU's come out that can handle it better than it will be worth it.

On Ultra it doesn't really get impressive framerates, but on High it can get solid 60fps on 4K.

And I have heard a lot of people say on higher resolutions there is less need for AA, while pretty much all benchmarks have AA turned on (maybe even upto 8xAA) in their Ultra benchmarks (because Ultra = everything to the highest setting usually).

So it can do 4K gaming, just not on all the highest settings, but close.

Its a 1440p Beast. But if you want max settings, anything but SLI is pointless for 4k.

You should probably upgrade to a Titan X and stick to one 1080p screen for that awesome 200+ Fps in EVERY SINGLE GAME. I think that's where its at man. Blow a grand on a massive overpriced GPU and then not even use it.

A GTX980Ti is a very capable 1440p GPU and okay for 4K, but beast, there´s no such thing out there as single card right now. I speak from first hand experience since I use 4K and a Titan X 2way SLI. People have just no idea how much rendering power you need in 4K to get real eye candy. My cards are custom watercooled and heavily OCed and I get in The Witcher3 between 62 and 48 FPS. Now sure this is rock stable but take a look behind it and see the investment and you´ll understand why so many people want to believe in Pascal.

I don´t really know what your deal is, whether you try to troll or to be funny. But you´re neither of it. Everytime I see you post, it is nonsense like the statement above... is there a specific reason for that? The OP HAS a GTX980Ti and wants to know if he should go with 2 1080p screens or 1 1440p... but I know reading can be difficult sometimes, right?

I would personally choose to go with a single 1440p monitor right now, because with your GTX980Ti it would be an awesome experience and you´d get the best for your money. You´d get stable FPS and your games are going to look amazing. If you can stretch your budget to a G-Sync monitor you´d be golden.

Damn, looks like I made the right decision to not get a second 780ti and a 4K monitor back when GTA V came out...

This was a damn good decision hehe. The GK110 aka GTX780Ti is still a powerful chip BUT it was never built for 4K and the 3GB VRAM will choke the card out in 4K. It is as simple as it is just not enough :).
