Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I would love to gift my parents a 32 inch 1080p TV as the still have a TV from around 2000 which barely works and is probably like 360p.

Yes it is one of those box TV's so this would be amazing

and would really help them out as they watch tv alot of their day.

Hey, I would really love a Corsair Gaming K95 RGB with Cherry MX-Brown for my friend, who is still gaming on an old crappy keyboard. I used it for quite a while already and as much, as lightning isn’t that easy to set up, I would do it for him, because when everything is setup it works quite easily and perfect in my experience.
NOTE: A GERMAN keyboard layout would be super nice

I would get my best friend an xbox controller for the pc.

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Controller-Cable-Windows/dp/B00O65I2VY/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1449144776&sr=1-4&keywords=controller

He loves gaming on his pc, but as soon as something goes wrong i have to fix it :D

It would be handy to just play some co-op games or whatever when he comes over or just to give him another option when he plays racing games.

:3 My sister is drawing every day with her iPad, but its old.. Her dreams are to become a Pixar Story Artist and the old iPad is really holding her back.. She's been wanting a drawing tablet for years now, and I've been wanting to GET her one, but its never been in the budget.. But it could change her life to be able to draw on one of these.. She is definitely not a techie, but she does love Pixar..

WHAT? I´d love to give away a Chromebook,

WHO? I would give this to my 85yo grandma, so she can enjoy the worlds biggest database of cooking and baking receipts, jump on facebook to get in touch with her abroad living relatives and even video-chat with them.

WHY? Cause it´s easy to use, not much stuff to mess around with, and with all those google-services there is no need to buy programs like office and stuff.

thanks in advance ;)

Paul

They are always stealing my brother's phone and browsing at facebook or watching stupid videos. One more "smart" device in house would help quite a bit :P

I think I'd like to get my family a NAS

Maybe something like a Western Digital MyCloud EX2 (http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Diskless-Network-Attached-Storage/dp/B00I2P53NY/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449145623&sr=1-2&keywords=WD+My+Cloud+EX2 ) and 2 2TB WD Red drives to fill it with ( http://www.amazon.com/Red-Desktop-Hard-Disk-Drive/dp/B008JJLZ7G/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449145708&sr=1-3&keywords=WD+Red ) (or a pair of the 1TB ones, if any of the prices have gone up)

That way all I have to do is spend an hour on setup and showing them how to use it, and they'll be able to share their vacation photos and "cinematic masterpieces" (read: 6 minute video of the tree in our front yard) with ease, and I'll never again be woken up at three in the morning to the sound of "Jack!! I just finished this presentstion on the family computer but I need it on my laptop for class tomorrow!! Heeeelllpppp." And God knows that me setting up automatic backups on all the machines is going to save us all a lot of headaches.

Awesome giveaway from some awesome people. Thanks, and happy holidays!

Something like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Synology-DiskStation-DS215j-Desktop-Enclosure/dp/B00OZ0CTAU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449146123&sr=8-1&keywords=Synology+Disk+Station+DS215j

Because my dad is always complaining that he can't acces his files from his notebook on his desktop, and does not have a place to backup. And damn, some of those files he has are pretty crucial to him.

And the HDD in his 7 year old HP desktop is clicking, and I keep telling him to back it up, and use his laptop (which is awesome). But he's like: "Son, just because a car is old, does not mean you should stop using it." - and I am like: "No but when you HDD is dying you should back up your data". And he's like: "nah." -.-'

So I would buy my dad one of these and some WD Red 3 TB :-)

I would get my brother, sister and mother an SSD. Because who still uses only regular HDD's? I've tried to convince them but they don't want to spend more money on their laptops...

I would like to have 3 of them:) so I can not only make one non-techie happy, but three!

CPU: Intel® Core i5-4670K @ 4.4GHz. CPU-Cooler: Gelid Tranquillo Rev.2. GPU: 2x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780ti GHz Edition. MOBO: Asus Z87-A. RAM: 8 GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical. STORAGE: Plextor 126GB SSD + SeaGate 1TB HDD. PSU: Corsair CX750M. CASE: Corsair Carbide 200R Closed. MONITOR: 3x Qnix QX2710 Evolution II 27" 2560x1440.

Wow this is a really nice idea for a giveaway! congrats! :)

Well, my mom really likes music and she travels quit a bit, and a lot of times she is also in a noisy environment. I keep trying to convince her to buy good headphones but she is always saying that its okay son I don't really need better headphones it'll be the same as now. says someone who uses those crappy in-ear headphones she once got for like 20 bucks.

So Id really like to get her nice noise cancelling and small headphones, specifically the blue and black Bose QuietComfort 25 ones (for android): http://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-Acoustic-Cancelling-Headphones/dp/B00M1NEUKK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1449147757&sr=8-2&keywords=bose+noise+cancelling

Thanks for the entertaining and awesome ideas and content LTT!

Big tablet for my father. He has over 10 years old computer that I build and because I moved to different city (college and stuff) I left my PC there and bought gaming laptop. That old PC has been updated from Windows Vista to 7 to 8 to 8.1 to 10 and is still running fine. He uses my old PC for web-surfing and for paying bills online but because that is decade old gaming PC it uses a lot of electricity.

He has always used Windows PC so Windows tablet would be smart idea, but with Android tablet he could use his bank's app to pay bills making it safer (Android has more apps and also Windows tablets are very expensive). Tablet's screen needs to be big because he has bad eyesight so I was thinking that Nexus 9 would be best choice. Also because it's Nexus it has latest Android so it is safe to use and it's price is less than 300USD right now.

Nexus 9 from Amazon

A cherry mx blue switch mechanical keyboard for my Mom. She's an assistant who has a rubber dome keyboard and doesn't know why I payed a lot for my keyboard by saying there's "no benefit to an expensive keyboard" until recently when I let her type on mine. She fell in love.

I would get my mom a Das Keyboard 4 professional. She has beenwriting articles and newsletters for a few businesses for a while and is still using an old (gross and sticky) PS/2 Microsoft ergonomic keyboard. I would love for her to upgrade her writing experience so that she doesn't and so she doesn't have to deal with an old gross keyboard anymore.

First I wanted to say "Thank you, Linus" for this giveaway. I won't win anyway, but I thank you beforehand in the name of those who do.

A marry christmas to all of LMG!

My Tech Gifts for my non-techie family would be an Nvidia Shield Pro + Remote http://amzn.com/B013HK3YH0

The thought behind this gift?

Because my family hasn't started enjoying the bliss that is online video streaming, they still watch that rubbish that is TV. Since we all have amazon prime they would now have a nice, easy and free way to watch some nice movies without having to plug a laptop into the television and kneeling on the floor to control the thing (no Miracast on the TV we have).

My parents obviously need something easy and the Android TV interface is perfect for that and far better than those propietary interfaces from the smart TVs themselves (not that we have one anyway).

My little brother (15) isn't a passionate gamer like me, but he likes his mobile games, so the Shield would give him a nice opportunity for some solid gaming sessions. And maybe he would get into it more, start to resemble his bigger brother and game more hehe.

Some nicer content would give my little sister (19) the incentive to join the rest of the family for a nice evening all together.

Why the Shield in that particular config?

The 500gb are for storing the occasional decent TV show and be able to put the music library of my father onto it to additionally get a nice music streaming device out of it.

The remote obviously for convinience. My parents won't get accostomed to the idea of using a game controler to control the tv, lol.

The shield and not some other alternatives (fire TV, Apple TV and such) because we techies all know it's the best performing device and the one with the most functionality. Plus the mentioned gaming capability for my little brother.

Good luck everyone!

P.S. In the remote possibility I get drawn...The shield pro + remote is 299$ on amazon atm. Me and my family will gladly take a lesser config if the price is to go up by the time of the drawing. ;)

I would want to get my uncle a Logitech Harmony Smart Control, he's getting on in age and being retired he will spend his time making flys for fly fishing rather then fumble around with half a dozen remotes. Because of this a lot of his hardware will go unused because its to complicated for him to set everything up correctly. the only thing he uses now is basic TV, no movies or music.

I want to get my mom a pair of Sennheiser HD 598.

I want her to have her own headphones and I want her to stay away from my siberias :c

inb4: she is VERY picky about sound so my solution of $20 earbuds isn't a good one.
