Police "to be" granted power to view your Internet History [UK]

VPN ACTIVATED

Genuinely going to go and buy one,

What is THE BEST VPN available? anybody? cost is not important

EDIT: - I believe the police should ONLY be able to look at your history if an internet related crime has been committed, or if they need evidence relating to a crime, and only with a warrant

This, or when looking at mine they'll wank themselves to death to some pretty decent stuff.

The police SHOULD be able to check your history, but it SHOULD be a last case scenario or be monitored anonymously until something gets flagged up.

Lastly, just becuase you have nothing to hide now, it doesn't mean that you have nothing to hide in the future.

But if you do have something to hide (cp, terrorism or whatever) means your guilty... no? It's your problem, don't do something illegal.

That depends on what is illegal. Just becuase something is illegal doesn't mean it's bad to do that thing.

Sure, today what you have to hide is things like CP and terrorism, but what about tomorrow?

Tomorrow it might be illegal to look up ´militant ideologies´ and then it becomes illegal to look ideas that are contrary to the reigning ideology in the country.

Also, even if a person today is a child raping terrorist, I don't want the police to search his stuff without a warrant.

If they can't get a warrant that means that they don't have adequate evidence to support their suspicions.

Even the most vile person deserves to be treated like a person with human rights.

We should be able to expect privacy online, it's privacy online that allowed movements in country's to develop much more rapidly, if we can't have the freedom to disagree the freedom to ponder things that are perhaps dark and scary then we cannot reevaluate our positions we cannot move forward with society we become stagnant with a status quo that despite its flaws will never change, it alright to say you do nothing wrong and there for don't have anything to hide, but what happens when what's right changes what happens when the thought police come knocking.

But if you do have something to hide (cp, terrorism or whatever) means your guilty... no? It's your problem, don't do something illegal.

I suggest you go and look at the psychological impact of mass surveillance as well as the recent history of the red scare in America, people like Charlie Chaplin were deported because they were deemed communist sympathisers although any evidence was merely the support of the very socialist polices of communism and not the support of the dictator ship or atrocities the likes of stalin committed, the inability to discuss these things in public removes the ability change them for better or to find the positives in there ideology that can be used elsewhere

History usually comes with dates, so if he checked that before the law was in well he won't be guilty or whatever.

Why? He has lost his rights by doing illegal and non humane things.

That's not the point. The point is that you give the government an instrument that allowes them to go through peoples privat stuff without a warrant.

That systemt can then be used for all kinds of purposes.

Should we really allow the government to know who has searched for ´UK Labour Party´? Personally, I don't trust the government with that kind of information.

And I know I'm already sharing my search history with Google, but Google doesn't have the power to imprison me.

Why? He has lost his rights by doing illegal and non humane things.

No, he has not.

Just becuase a person does bad things, it doesn't legitimize people treating him bad. Mosaic law was luckily left in the Old Testament.

Inhuman behaviour doesn't warrant inhuman behaviour.

Also, searching through any person's stuff without a warrant is deeming them guilty before a judicial judgment is made.

That is not a power that the police nor the government should have. That power should belong to the courts.

I hate all this bs spying legislation as of late, it only breads resentment and distrust of the authorities from the people, these countries are fueling their own downfall and can't even see it. Though why should I be surprised as history always repeats itself, suppression leads to revolution and the cycle repeats forever.

Disgusting. They are annihilating every UK citizen's right to online privacy - there is no justification whatsoever for the police being granted this much power.

Why stop here? Why not mandate that each citizen must outfit their homes with CCTV cameras which can be monitored by the police 24/7? It would mean the police can catch anyone doing anything bad across the entire country! Fantastic idea.

-SNI- PIA (Private internet access) is currently the go to paid VPN service at the moment: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/

How can a company that uses US-based company as a selling point ever be a good VPN. They are forced to hand over all data on you by law.

Edit

The topic is full on info on this haha

Welp

They make it seem like the police will come in your house and search your PC for your internet history.  A lot, if not most, people will take it this way.

I am under the impression that they will have access to where a particular IP has been, out on the web.  If they find an IP on, let's say... a kiddie porn site, then they contact the ISP and find out who the IP belongs to.

Then they break down your door and search your PC.

Now I see problems even in the scenario I painted, but I just want to be sure I understand.

on top of that tunnelbear ONLY hands over customer information to investigators with a court-ordered specific warrant, at least that's true for the US

yes and as they say they do not store IP information so even if the court ordered them to hand over the data, then there would be no data to hand over anyway

as long as they have a warrant im fine with it

They would not need a warrant for this though, they just automatically get access
