I intentionally don't. I feel like I don't particularly notice FPS drops, unless I have a FPS counter on. Then a lot of the time i'm eyeing the counter instead of the game, or I'll get annoyed over a FPS drop I wouldn't have noticed or cared about if not for the counter.

I typically don't look at FPS unless I start to notice some frame dropping.  

 

Then I'll use fraps and adjust my graphics settings.

Found I was way too bothered about my fps instead of actually enjoying a game so I don't use one anymore.

 

I'm the same as Banker, I only load fraps up to check if I notice the game isn't running properly.

Steam if applicable though the text is small; not that intrusive for when recording gameplay, otherwise Fraps (or built-in displays in counterstrike and World of Warships, for example). I know a few friends who use EVGA's overlay and I myself used to use Afterburner, but it conflicts with a lot of other apps.

I used to use fraps, but if I launched gta v with it on, the steam overlay wouldn't work. Now I use the steam one.

From Steam, because basically I mostly play Steam games, but if I don't play Steam games, then I'd use FRAPS.

I don't want to use FRAPS for Steam as I've seen someone got banned because of using it. I just don't want to be another victim.

 

Of course FPS counter helps you know what's going on with the game, if the FPS is high then you can proceed to higher graphics setting, otherwise just stay.
