You answered your own question, if it's called Programs and Settings then why would searching for Uninstall find it?

That doesn't work either.

Maybe they'll include the option to remove bloatware without using powershell. But I think not.

That's because your globally searching for a application which doesn't exist outside of a DLL. If you did that from inside Control Panel it would work but that's because CP knows that Appwiz.cpl is actually Programs & Settings.

That said I do agree with you, you should be able to search basic Windows control commands in the global search and they should show up, things like mouse, keyboard, resolution, uninstall etc.

I wonder if they'll release a cortana API to create extensions for her & global search.

It is "Programs and Features" not "Programs and Settings" there is no "Settings" in the panel, only the ability to uninstall/Modify install programs and turn on/off Windows features. You can also access it from the Start Menu power menu (Win+X).

But "Uninstall" should work if you clean up the Start menu

That's what I would expect, does resolution show Display Settings?

If you search "Resolution" you get Display Settings, yes. :)

Windows 10 has yet to convince me to switch. If they mess this up I will have even more reason to not switch.

Here is a better idea, get rid of the god awful setting app and go leave control panel alone until you come up with something better than control panel.

Simple things such as changing resolutions hidden behind multiple clicks, sums up how unrefined the settings app is for me.

I prefer the Control Panel. I'm sure there are others who prefer the settings app. It should be optional which one you want to use.

And yet...why can't I just type in "uninstall" in either the settings menu or in the start menu to get the Programs and Features thing, or an equivalent for the Settings app?

Do I have to type appwiz.cpl into Run all the time?

You can...

this is really my only problem.  i wont mind if they merge the two, as long is it actually has all the options.  but they do need to do a better job of not hiding the settings behind 10 different submenus.   just having them all in one place to start with will be a huge improvement.

but thats why godmode exists.

Hang on...

1 start

2 control panel

3 display options

compared to

1 start

2 settings

3 display

It's exactly the same number of clicks? And if you have CP set to the new view mode (don't remember its name, never use it) it's 1 more click on top.

Anyway

1 right click desktop

2 resolution settings

will always be quicker for changing resolution.

Having two separate implementations means more code complexity and disk/mem usage. Getting to one is leaner.

Lol, what a load of bullshit. Either the people at Microsoft can't even code a settings menu properly or they are grasping at straws to validate their decisions. If it's coded properly then changing settings in the control panel or settings app should just change flags in the background, and the options that are in both the control panel and settings app will change the same flags in the OS. If they got separate flags that control the same functionality then what the hell were they thinking?

Disk usage will be minimal at best. It's basically just the size of the extra set of icons. The only way memory usage would be different is if they preload both the control panel and settings app and even if they do that it would be a very small amount (like a few MB).

As long as they move over ALL the settings from the control panel to the settings app I won't mind. Right now though the settings app is pretty much useless for me since it lacks 9 out of 10 more "advanced" (if you can even call things like setting static IP "advanced") settings I need access to. Pretty much every single thing under Network & Internet is just a link to the control panel.

But I would rather they just remove the settings app and keep the control panel. It is so much more organized (or maybe the better word would be "familiar").

How many here are willing to bet that this will result in users losing control over their computers as well as lots of very important features, all in the name of "user friendliness"?

This does not bother me as long as the functionality of the old Control Panel gets worked into Settings.
