So if you ever wanted a visual demonstration about what Salomandrin is on when he talks about wanting a racecar over a hypercar - here is a 991.1 GT3RS, one of the most evolved 911s and frequently coveted as one of the best cars you can buy. Around Algarve you really get to stretch its legs (the PDK is amazing) but the major things holding it back are cornering grip and braking in general - the mass of the car makes carrying momentum quite difficult. 1:59.119 was the best I could do, which is slower than the 1:58.420 I can do in a GT4 clubsport - a car that costs much less in the real world than the RS but with obvious limitations (I know theres more time on the table but that comes with experience.)

Similarly, a 991.2 GT3 Cup can lap a further 8 seconds faster than that thanks in no part to its lighter and stiffer chassis. The V10 Cup tires are also one of the most developed compounds in the game, so theres that. Driving the car you couldn't tell it only makes 400+ horsepower.

For gigs I lapped the RS and the R back to back, and I can sort of see what @MEC-777 is on about. Underneath they are essentially the same chassis and driveline, but the RS is much twitchier. Maybe its the slightly stiffer nature of the suspension and the short-ratio 7MT PDK, but the RS was always nervous on quick turn-in and especially under brakes. The 911R on the other hand was much softer and a tad more understeery, but the drive was relatively easy. The 6MT gearbox meant you could hold a single gear for more of the lap and get a better turn in with the same braking points. It's of course slower than the RS, but it only turned out to be 2-3 seconds a lap at the Algarve.

Just when you think you've finally nailed a good LMP1 lap, you smash that with no effort at all in a F1 car. The 919 is absolutely one of the most difficult cars to drive right in the game, and dare I say it's harder than a current F1 car. The power delivery after 3rd gear is quite smooth, but you damn better be paying attention in 2nd. Visibility is horrid which means you really have to know your corners and manage your ERS. In contrast, the F138 was like driving a Formula 3 car - the car didn't fight back, the power was insanely smooth, the aero was there. The only real problem I had with it was the occasional spin by accidentally lighting up the rears or hitting a curb the wrong way.

Both laps were done using only the automated systems - no manual KERS, and no DRS for the F138. The were both running 20L of fuel and the softest compounds available (soft for the 919, supersoft for the F138) which probably accounts for 3 seconds difference.

Oh, and the 911R likes to slide. A lot. :)

From a technical standpoint, yes. From a functional standpoint, something's not right. Don't worry, I'm not going to rant on and on about it again. I will give it more of a chance before I completely condemn it thought. ;)

SO. MUCH. FUN.

The first step in getting used to the Cup car before taking it to the full endurance layout of the ring. Considering I can do consistent 2:05s, which is within 6 seconds of my GT3 pace, I'd say I'm well on my way there in practice. Slowly learning how the car is with different tire states but my current FFB settings dont allow me to get a real good sense of the inertia.

PB so far at the GP circuit is 2:04.962 - just barely dipping into the 2:04s but I'm incredibly happy with it. A bit sloppy in Sector 1, but I made up quite a bit of time in S3. Lost a few tenths coming onto the straight from the previous lap, so theres that.

The 991.2 GT3 Cup sure does look good.Screenshot_ks_porsche_911_gt3_cup_2017_ks_nurburgring_23-12-116-22-54-49.jpgScreenshot_ks_porsche_911_gt3_cup_2017_ks_nurburgring_23-12-116-22-55-46.jpgScreenshot_ks_porsche_911_gt3_cup_2017_ks_nurburgring_23-12-116-22-59-24.jpgScreenshot_ks_porsche_911_gt3_cup_2017_ks_nurburgring_23-12-116-23-3-13.jpgScreenshot_ks_porsche_911_gt3_cup_2017_ks_nurburgring_23-12-116-23-5-19.jpg

The new studio has picked up the pace massively but in its current state its still lacking in a lot of places, the two stand outs are stability and content. Im personally gonna wait, i suggest trying out the demo as its just 2h or something like that of the whole game. Im using a bit of caution to see where they want to fully head, they have picked up the pace massively but i want to make sure that lasts and that i can see what their strategy is to fix their main issues and if they can possibly revive the modding community

I have some Steam money for Christmas, but along with some of my games' DLC, rFactor 2, and the Porsche Pass for AC, I am $8 short. Should I remove the Porsche Pass or rFactor 2?

You'll get more out of AC and the mods for that game than you will for RF2.

I already have AC, just not the Porsche Pack. I ended up getting rF2, so if I don't like it I will refund it and either keep the money or purchase P^2. I ended up getting rFactor to hold me over until I can purchase iRacing again, because it supposedly has very human-like AI, fantastic physics and quite a few people say the FFB is the best they've ever felt.

Fanatec CSL or V3 pedals are pricey, but good options for a set with more digital detail and mechanical feedback. Otherwise, maybe the T3PA Pro if you can find it cheap or locally.
