Box Box Box - Sim Racing Players Club [Now Hype Train Enabled!]

So I was trying out Gamestream on our ShieldTV because I got a new GPU (A gtx 970 that i bought broken on ebay for $130 and then sent off for warranty and received a brand new one :P

To keep it thread related I (and my sister, which is who was playing when i took the pic) did try project cars. Experience was great, pretty much unplayable professionally without a steering wheel though (controller = car all over the place)
Battlefield 1 Beta was awesome on the big tv. Too bad it's difficult playing shooters with a controller...

Civ 5 worked great with a keyboard and mouse plugged in... wireless stuff would be a million times better though im sure!

I wanted to plug in my DFGT and try playing pcars with that on there but I have no place to put it lol. I doubt it would work anyway though lol

Rocket League and The Golf Club are both the best experience I ever had with Gamestream so far. I would love to find a good local multiplayer PC controller-based game (other than rocket league because most people are terrible at it, including me) that makes for fun gaming on the big screen when I have a friend over or something lol.

Also I tried Geforce experience beta and set my resolution to 3840 x 2160 to attempt to stream in 4K (mind you I have CAT 6 (actually CAT 6E, idk why they put that in our house lol) cables going to the shield TV AND my PC so that's no issue). But of course they don't even let you try and it just says "Your pc isnt capable of streaming in 4K blah blah blah" (I was actually playing BF1 @ 60 fps with reduced settings with the 4k upscaling, so they are liars and just want my money for a GTX1080 or something)

You make me want a Shield so bad...but it's $100. I'd rather just plug in my computer to my TV.

If you haven't head of the wheelstand pro I'd recommend you look into it! Should be able to let you use your DFGT while gaming from that TV. Civ on a big screen looks amazing.

I dont think the wheel works plugged in through the shieldTV unfortunately. I cant really test because i have no place to put it.

If i had a wireless keyboard and mouse that operated within range of the tv, I'd totally play Civ on that screen!

haha! We got it because we had a 4K tv and its pretty much the only device for watching 4k content that you can buy (or well it was). That was the original reason we got a ShieldTV (the console thing). I needed a gpu upgrade and i went nvidia so i could do the streaming too!

I will say it's only worth it over a wired connection. Wifi has too much variability in latency and stuff, it's just not worth game streaming over a wireless connection imo. My ping is literally 0 over a wire so it's pretty much like having the pc directly wired to the TV (except im limited to either 1080p or 1440p... i cant tell lol, as game settings are in 1440p but i think the shield itself may only be streaming 1080. idk

No need. You just need a cheap HTPC running Linux and you can use Steam in-home game streaming. ;)

The demo is basically just the E3 gameplay and whatever was at gamescom, made available to the public, so not missing out on much. It ends after the buggy race and then you drive the Centenario to the festival. Interestingly, they unlocked qutie a big portion of the map so you could potentially explore a bit.

He got his ute beached on a rock and the game wouldnt reset him xD tbh the only parts of the map i would want to explore are the built up areas like the city. idk why but i always stay around those areas in games.

Do you know how long the demo is going on for? I might have to fire up my Xbox again.

Not sure, at least a week? It's XB1 only and the full game launches Sep 27.

What do you guys think of Automobilista? (AMS)

Our racing league PRD is just about to enter season 5 (with the Rocketbunnt GT86 GT4) tomorrow evening, still using PCars and we've entered into serious discussion about what game we should migrate to in the future.

PCars has it's share of bugs which has plagued us from time to time and knowing it's nearing the end of it's official support life and considering we don't know anything about PCars 2 yet (or when it is due), we're thinking we should move on to something else in the mean time.

Graphics are not the highest priority, physics and "feel" are, as well as server and game stability. AMS also allows many other aspects PCars doesn't that would add to the realism we are after.

So those of you who have the game, can you give me a good run-down? It's $43 right now and I'd rather wait for a sale, unless you can convince me it's worth it. :P

I'd liken AMS in its current state to Assetto in its infancy. The core disciplines are all based around single seaters (F1 from the 90s to current day, karting, Formula 3, Formula 4, etc) with the odd touring car (brazil TCC) and single-make here and there. Physics wise its solid, with decent in-game telemetry and pit-lane control, but the AI is pretty bad in general (read: on-rails with little to no spatial awareness in most cases).

Damage is nonexistent, at least not to the extent where you can get a "feel" for it like in pCars. Track-wise, they are supposed to have modelled varying grip and terrain characteristics but I haven't played enough to notice it. At the very least, Reiza did include a wide selection of tracks but not many notable inclusions outside of what F1 runs on. The menus are still poorly designed and take forever, but like pCars you let it all slide once you get to the racing. Driving-wise, it's very similar to how RF2 handles with a few tweaks here and there.

Sound design is good but graphics are sub-par - they get the job done. Overall decent wheel and controller handling profiles.

At the end of the day, AMS is more of a hotlap simulator for me than Assetto Corsa is; I have no experience with the online.

I wouldn't buy it unless it dipped into the $20s, and if your group is looking to an alternative then I see Assetto being the way to go. BUT keep in mind that both AMS and AC have modding support, however your group has to be vigilant in the policing and BOP of modded cars as one of the issues I ran into back in the day was several cars (modded) in the league had tires from different patches, which gave them unfair speed advantages.

Thanks for the input. :)

Some of the aspects of AMS that are attracting us to it is the realistic flagging system (blue and yellow etc.), full pit lane control, track cut warnings, etc.

Not worried at all about policing things like BOP as our group is very trust-worthy with each other. We all share the mentality that we'd rather win on skill, vs  winning on a slight performance advantage or cheating. ;) We only invite people in who we have raced with and know well enough. We also keep our servers servers non-public.

Which, BTW, PRD is always looking for more competitive drivers to join, so if any of you are interested, just shoot me a PM. ;)

AC lacks some of those features we're looking for and is limited in it's own ways. I don't know what it is about AC, but the FFB isn't quite right. Maybe I haven't got the setting right, but it's always felt odd to me. Don't get me wrong, AC is a fantastic simulator with great physics, but I don't think is has all we're looking for, for our next platform.

One more question about AMS; Does it have customized setups for all cars that you can adjust? (suspension, tires, downforce, gears, geometry, multiple tire compounds etc.?) and what is the extent of the adjust-ability? (more or less than PCars?)

I'd join you, but my wheel is back in toronto and I've got a very busy semester ahead of me. Work work work to finish my degrees :(

Forgot to mention, there's also the boxter cup (basically GT3 cup). Here is what the set up options looks like, in a nutshell.

AFAIK, the livery you race with is the last one you selected via the garage. If you change cars, it will reset.

Selecting liveries in PCars is buggy (like many things :P). In our league, we almost always use custom liveries created by one of our members and at times, some of us see other people in the same or wrong paint jobs as other people, even though they see them selves in the correct one in their own game.

Got back into some Dirt Rally last night. Been a few months since I've played it. Forgot how much fun (and challenging) it is. :) Wrists were screaming at me after a couple hours, lol.
