I would keep it, to build a project or start a business, invest it, and put some in savings.

Then when I have hundreds of millions from a successful company I would be able to give away more than just $1 million.

I would invest in a house or two to rent, then wait until they equaled out to another house, and so on until I had much more then 1 mill. After that I would keep 40% of my earnings and donate 60% to charities like Extra Life :D

I'd set some aside to finish fixing up my house, put 8 grand away for "fun", set another 50 grand aside and then put the rest in a 1 year CD.

The CD would prevent any impulse buying that usually comes after such windfalls.

 

During that 1 year I would look for a modest home in a decent neighborhood to purchase.  I'd use the 50 grand partly as a down payment, and for any upgrades and then make sure I have enough for 1 years worth of mortgage payments.  I'd use that CD I bought as collateral for the mortgage which would result in a very low interest rate.

 

I'd then move my mother into the new home and let her stay there rent free providing she pay for the utility bills.  Then I'd help her fix up the home she owns so she could sell it and get rid of that mortgage.  Then six months after her home is sold, or after she has lived in the new house for 1 year (which ever comes last) I'd charge her just enough rent to cover the property taxes and insurance on the home.  This would be a lot less than she is currently paying now.

 

After the CD has matured I would invest some, donate some, and do my best to keep the money a secret.

Well $1000000 at the current exchange rate is £658762. So maybe 250-300K on a nice 1 bedroom flat (apartment for our American cousins) in Bath, 15k on modifying & restoring my Mazda MX 5, 70-80K on the Alfa Giulia QV when it get released, and the remaining 300K-ish I might have a crack at starting my own business.

I would have back to back parties inside my house (probably naked). I'd drive up and down my town in my new car while shooting bullets from my pistol in the air. Then I would buy the best computer ever and never leave my house for a year. And finally, I would make a pool with money and swim in it. :D

If I had that much mney, I would have made a homeless shelter where all homeless people can stay and go to their jobs. In short I would spend 90% of the money on the welfare of the world because it's all that matters.
