Why does everyone lean towards Intel CPUs?

Superdoge

The AMD 8350 is 180, clocked at 4ghz with 8mb of L2 cache, and 8 cores. To get something like that from Intel, it'll cost at least double, I have been buying Intel for a while but this is just, wow.

Because that CPU doesn't perform as good as something like an i3 from Intel in many, almost all, games out there :P

8 damn cores equivalent to "physical" hyperthreading basically.

Shared cache ,etc.

Not to mention AMD hasn't released a new CPU since...2012 I think?

Well you can see lots of the benchmarks out there.

For gaming, even i3 can beat 8350....

For multi-threaded performance, okay....

But single-threaded, it's weak....

Because more cores + higher speed cores does not equal more performance.

AMD cores aren't as efficient with their speed and numbers as Intel cores are. It's about instructions-per-clock, not clock speed. Although the number of cores thing is hardly AMD's fault, most software isn't optimized for using multiple cores. If most software was optimized for multi-core, then AMD might actually be ahead of Intel

Not all GHZ are equal - Its all about how many Instructions per cycle/clock, and Intels destroys AMD in this, with EACH INTEL CORE being 1.6x faster (see cinebench thread) than AMD's.

Not all GAMES are equal, some are only using 2 of many CPU's available, some games use more, but again.. NOT all games are equal, so having the BEST per-core performance is the obvious best-bet to getting higher performance in games.

NO CPU's of a different line are actually Comparable!

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

they have, but most of them have been apu and athlon refreshes and there have only been 3 "new" fx cpus in the last year (fx 8370, 8370e and 8320e) which are still more of the same, just slightly more power optimized.

AMD had 4 years to release a new CPU

They better have made 200% improvements on they're chips if they want anyone to buy they're new CPU's

*going off an i3 can beat a 4300*

I know even my 4770k when I'm actually doing my CAD work still beats an 8350 like nothing. Zen will need to be a HUGE jump for them to get back competitively in the CPU market for good.

The FX series was a waste of space.

They went from the K10 Phenom series which was good.

Then they made the FX CPU's and "Bulldozed" everything that was good about the k10 CPU's

Then they "Piledrove" that stuff down to bedrock.

Then they used a "Steamroller" to crash the good stuff from the k10 to nothingness.

After that, they sent a rescue crew to try and "Excavate" the k10 (But they failed)

and now they are relying on the powers of "Zen" to keep them alive.

(Don't say that isn't funny)

8 of those are cores are weak. hence why an i3 can beat an 8350... because intel has better core structure. i would happily pay double the price knowing that the performance i will be getting will be better.

those 8 cores can be good for multi-threaded performance, give it a single threaded program then thats where it loses out.

What intel 8 core processor is there for a somewhat reasonable price?

if you're talking about actual 8 cores then, none apart from the 5960x.

I don't think one exists with 8 cores at what we would call a "reasonable price". There's a reason for that, which is that AMD hasn't really been much competition (competition breeds higher performance and lower prices) for the last couple of years.

Technically a quad core I7 has 8 threads with 4 cores. But it doesn't really work out as much as you think it would.

8 Cores for Intel?

You can get i7-4790K or 6700K instead, it's got 4 cores hyper-threaded, should do the jobs for you.

But if you still want 8 cores.... Well.... 5960X and the price is very, very expensive.
