Microsoft releases XBox One Elite - New Elite Controller + 1TB SSHD drive

GoodBytes

No changes to the actual console :( Guess I will continue to wait for the xbone redesign.  Star wars version?

Dear Microsoft. Thank you for once again raising the price of consoles. Thanks to this, the "ceiling" for a true console killer spec is 499.99 USD. A setup at this price range is easy to do.

THANK YOU!!!!

you just made PC vs console an even more one-sided affair

Nothing the controller is to compete with the scuff controllers which were last time I checked $180.

That's just ridiculous.

I'd understand if it were a bit more expensive than the regular XOne controller, but it doesn't need to be like $90 more

SMH every console topic gets flooded with the same "DAE PC best bruh" crowd. We get it. Stop shoving your penises everywhere about it, its not very classy.

OT: The HDD I'm sure is a nice upgrade but the real draw is the controller. That thing is ludicrously good and solid, getting one to replace my 360 one for console/PC use. Sometimes paying that much really is worth it, the thing is built like a damn tank and is just so nice to use. Not for everyone, but I certainly appreciate something a bit above the typical plastic junk that peripherals can be.

<- Owns a PS1, PS3 and PS4... Plays on them on a weekly basis... PC has its advantages. What is fun with PC is trying to get a good rig at a ridiculously low budget... i like the challenge of consoler killer builds. There are compromises everywhere, and they all affect the overall performance..

If we flip things around and allowed Sony and Microsoft to build consoles costing 3700 USD each, which is what MY PC costs. Then you would probably end up with a product that is going to rival any PC, BUT, in a form factor and style factor that suits the living-room....

That is the important part of consoles that PC cannot beat (yet).... Their ability to be stylish and functional at teh same time, at a price point that is simply nearly impossible to match.

How exactly does an SSHD improve game performance by 20%? Loading times - sure; but performance gains?

EDIT: Says system performance...very misleading.

Microsoft is silently blaming the xb1 hdd to affect the overall under-performance

yeah, because cutting down the APU itself has no effect on performance at all. That much we know for sure.

Cut the apu ?? Is it still close to overheat?

Does it still have the same SATA controller?

I don't know if a SSHD makes much sense with SATA 2.0.

Cut the apu ?? Is it still close to overheat?

what MS did for XBONE was a twofold approach to ensure "red ring of death" never happened again

first they cut down the APU, so it is smaller and weaker then the one in the PS4.

Then they used a desktop PC esque cooling solution, rather then the "laptop" cooling solution used in the PS4...

End result is a very cool machine, BUT, a very bulky design which is also A LOT weaker.

SSHDs? The thing that improved game loading times on the PS4 by like 0.3 seconds?

The cache on an SSHD is way too small to have any tangible benefit. It will help enormously with system startup times (were they that bad on Xbox One to start with?) but I don't think otherwise I think there is far too much different data being accessed for an SSHD to help here.

On the other hand, it does offer some amount of solid state cache that is missing from the standard HDD, it is twice the size and an SSD of the same size would cost as much as the entire console. So while its benefits are limited, I can't really fault their inclusion.
