But a desktop is still more powerfull and bang for your buck.

Also why the heck do you need to render videos at  300Mb/s which is the maximum of Premiere Pro?

A 1080P Blu-ray has a bitrate of about 50Mb/s. YouTube compresses videos to 20Mb/s

Open your eyes and break your chains. Console peasantry is just a state of mind.

ever thought of use outside the consumer market? in which @ShadowCaptain might be involved(considering the huge amount of time he spend on the photo zone and money on filming stuff)

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

But I cant use it in the field.. or a train.. on a plane.. take it abroad.. in the car... at work on the desk... etc - I have a desktop at home for that

I don't render at 300.. I use files that can be 200-300mbps as they are capture in prores HQ for colour grading in Premiere

EDIT: just checked its about 230mbs the file I have been working on .. so yeah..

also.. can play Crysis 3 on the bus :P

What are you talking about? find me another laptop with an 18" display, HDMI in (amazing btw and super rare) Dual graphics cards, high end CPU, 3 Hard drive bays, - its slim pickings

Not ashamed at at all, pull out iPhone. not ashamed of that either, I am proud of the hard work I did to buy the equipment I need and desire

Why should I be ashamed? 99% of people I run into think its awesome, even at large gaming events. Normal people are like wow amazing

Only the short sighted would hate on something for being of a particular brand or not being suited to their needs, wants and tastes.

Because everyone hates on Alienware for the fact that is just stupid overpriced, except for one product which is the Alienware Alpha, which is still overpriced at 462.99$:http://www.amazon.com/Alienware-ASM100-1580-Console-i3-4130T-Processor/dp/B00MA7AMKY

There was a sale around when it was 330$ which would make it a good choice for people who want to switch from consoles to PC.

Alienware is still best know for it's prebuild desktops, why would anyone want to buy a crappy desktop with a 5820K and a R9 270 put together in a Chinese sweatshop, when you can pay 30-100$/€ assembly cost at your local hardwareshop where some guys put it together with passion&love and good cable management.

Open your eyes and break your chains. Console peasantry is just a state of mind.

Still better than a Macbook.

But seriously. I don't get why Alienware are still in business. They ARE worse than Apple.

...The Alienware Alpha is pretty neat, though.

Because they exist. And they're actually worth your money. The ones saying they're overpriced are usually idiots who don't factor in labor charges.

Let'st take a look at the Area 51. A fucking 5820K with a R9 270. How is that "worth your money".

The only reason I don't have an MXM gaming laptop anymore is cost of upgrading them. I instead carry my desktop when I need power. Much cheaper.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

To bad there are people like me who can absolutely not go around carrying a 40+ lbs desktop. If it wasn't for having a bad back on top of it, I wouldn't be so keen to buying a gaming laptop for being on the road for doing things.

Yes. Labor charges + warranty + phone service. I did a breakdown of alien wares hardware vs custom built. You pay about 400 dollars for custom case tech support and labor charges. It's a fair deal.

Dells customer support is fucking top notch now as well had a laptop that was a month out of the warranty for it and the HDD in it died out of the blue. I called up Dell not realizing my warranty was no longer valid they sent me a brand new HDD even with it being out of warranty period for it.

You mean only idiots pay 400$ for that.

Warranty is the same as the warranty when purchasing parts. Phone service likely cost you 1$/minute.

Assembly costs are only 30€ including VAT and Arctic Silver 5 Premium Silver Compound which is 10€ if you purchase separably.

Beat that, LMAOware

I can stand by Alienware since my first laptop from them which was a M17x R1 with a Core 2 Duo P8600 and a GTX 260m and 9800m in Hybrid SLI is still running like new after all this time, I had a great experience with them.

Yeah I don't know were they think its ok to do a system like that. But their laptops are very nice even for being priced higher then the competition at times, they still got a damn good customer support team which makes a big difference in my opinion of a company.

Right now my daily is a Toshiba Satellite Ultra book.

My still living Tank of a Alienware is a M17xR1 from 2009.

Which one would like the specs of?
