The Alienware 18 is Back!

asim1999

Great that's for use at home. Now what about something that can be used while travelling?

Edit: Also, a Seagate HDD? Lol, their quality has really gone downhill.

I meant to desktop hardware in laptop. I just chose the 17-x cause I knew it had em

Desktop hardware in a laptop is not new then. The first laptops had desktop CPUs because mobile CPUs did not exist yet.

That isn't a laptop that can be used on the go as a gaming/workstation laptop. And you know it.

Trust me, only the older Seagate hard drives last close to and over their MTBF (mean time before failure).

Better than breaking your back hauling an mini ITX rig and all the associated gear around. And there are light weight gaming/workstation laptops.

They are overpriced. That is a fact, fanboy.

Lmao, and we have another person who doesn't get the point behind powerful laptops. They are priced so high because a lot more work needs to go into designing the laptop, its components (excluding the CPU, GPU and display panel-those are just bought separately). You have no clue as to how the computer industry works and how much money is actually needed to build a laptop.

No you fail to get the point.

But I'm back to gaming with my beloved dual 980Ti rig, something a so called "gaming laptop" could never even come close too at 2000-2500$.

Do you understand that people like us want to carry a powerful rig anywhere, and it's much easier to do with a laptop than a desktop? We don't want to have the powerful rig at home and a pathetically weak laptop on the go. We want a single, powerful system. I'm not going to do CAD work on a laptop with a dual-core, sub 2GHz Celeron, thank you ever so much.

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

Also, if anyone has their mind corrupted by an anthropomorphic black latex bat, please let me know. I would like to join you.

Lol, and my point was proven. A portable workstation/gaming laptop is perfect for those who need a powerful computer and don't want to carry around a desktop PC (including mini ITX rigs). Get it through your thick skull. There are a lot of people who need a PC that is powerful and fully portable. With desktops you get none of that portability.

You used to be able to get what were called 'ultraportable' workstations which weighed around 2-2.5KG such as the Tecra M5 with at the time a powerful Core Duo and Quadro based GPU, however you were limited by the amount of actual heat dissipation available due to the small form factor so you couldn't get the higher end quadros in them. Which is where you got the larger and 0.5-1KG heaver 15.5" notebooks.

Please explain how a 5.4kg laptop is portable alongside the 5-10Kg books and other stuff that I used to carry when I was in school.

Please explain how a desktop is in any way portable alongside the 5-10KG books and other stuff you used to carry when you were at school. When a laptop can be quite simply put in a relatively small bag and carried around with you. (Also, I used to lug my Compaq Presario R3000-which was fully upgraded and weighed over 4KG-with around 7KG of textbooks and I managed the weight just fine).

And your still missing the point. Also, students aren't the only ones who use computers.

How many % of the people on this earth need dual 970M for their highschool/university of work.

Again its not just about students you idiot. There are people who have jobs that actually require a computer that is powerful and yet mobile.

Their desktops are yes. Their laptops however actually have the specs and build quality to justify their price. Also, there is the benefit of good customer support.

Btw found out that the Alienware is 12 punds or 5.4KG do you want people to get a hernia dragging that thing around?

Nope. I bet it's much more. My m18x r1 was 12 pounds BUT the charger was 6 pounds (330w brick).

Still rather carry that (a clevo preferably) than my itx rig (I don't even need to bring screens!) any day if I could afford it.

The laptops you show cost just as much for what you get, if not more, since their weak single gpus can't be upgraded. (which isn't cheap even if you have mxm cards)

Because I've gone with the much cheaper option of my desktop, it's a lot of the time I have to wait until I'm home to do certain things if I didn't bring my desktop that day.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. this ad from alienware...

Yah it's not like I think they treat their customers with respect at all. They know their uneducated demo

Alienware has a GPU dock that only works for their 13 inch laptop.

Before it only came with a dual core 4 thread i5-4210U.

Customers complained that there was no better option. This also prevented me from buying it (I love the GPU dock, and I'm a laptop expert, you don't have to tell me it's overpriced. I know, but in addition to this dock alienware is the only one to have HDMI input)

So dell listened to its customers, and the Alienware 13 now comes with a new i7-4510U option. Slightly higher clocked at a whopping 2GHz, this beast comes with 2 cores and 4 threads....

wait...

2 cores and 4 threads

...

"We listened to your complaints about a 1.7GHz dual core CPU and added a 2GHZ Dual core cpu option. Because it's that much better. It has a 7 instead of a 5 after all"

MFW alienware.

YcnHRkc.jpg

Back to waiting I guess, unless another laptop manufacturer has a dock or some form of thunderbolt or something with 8x PCIe lanes AND HDMI input.

But currently Alienware, as has been for years with the exception of one clevo laptop, is the only band to have HDMI input.
