There's a reason why it's popular, and that's because the target audience actually enjoy it. Much like Harry potter and twilight.

When you have young or middle-aged women as a target audience, and you create something that they like, you will be rolling in money because women tend to follow their kind.

 

I don't want to sound sexist but it's true. Take Justin Bieber as another example, his target audience happens to be young teenage girls.

Hmm, I wouldn't look at it like that. I myself am beginning to loathe romance in anything because it's in everything. It's saturated the market and apparently sells well, I guess some people are just really, really into it.

 

I've known erotica to exist before, but it makes me curious as to why this one is so popular.

IIRC it's a two series book, better decide on if you're going to commit to secrecy for the long haul or not.

As a sadist, 50 shades is insulting to those practicing, it gives an uninformed portrayal of the scene, it shows a lesser style and claims in the book to be the full stylings. It's to vanilla to be true to the scene.
