[Rumor] Microsoft to launch Xbox One Mini in October

I don't believe that anyone that's doing a build with Bitfenix is gonna make it as "powerful" as One, they'll be doing way more with it.

Straight up it'd need to be able to handle at least 720p 60fps with ultra settings like my GTX 650ti 2GB and Xeon X5450. But it won't because Microsoft went full retard and didn't stick with the better CPU/dGPU combination.

If it's 30% more powerful than One, who knows how will that look. Also for the future, I read some dev (another one), claimed that DX12 can give avg 20% more FPS on One.

It only makes sense if you also compare the price. If you can build a pc with the same computing and graphic output, same price and size. 

Fair point. The thing with the xbone  is, that it is too big for what it is. It has virtually the same hardware as the PS4 but is a lot bigger and doesn't even have the power supply integrated. This is just lazy engineering.

Then they won't go for the Bitfenix, it costs ~$100. That's not a budget case. It costs what, 1/3 of Xbox One? Those 2 are not really comparable.

Hmm, XB One's fan looks like a normal PWM connector and it seems pretty roomy, wonder if you can fit a 120mm fan in there.

Right at this very moment there are quite a few games on the X1 that are running at 1080p 60fps, but I will grant you that not all of them are. Some are 1080p 30fps, and some are using a lower resolution. But to be quite honest, who the hell really cares? This resolution bs wasn't even a thing with gaming consoles until this generation, but what does it matter as long as people are enjoying a game they like? A higher resolution might improve the image on the screen, but it doesn't make a bad game good. Just as a slightly lower than 1080p resolution doesn't make a good game bad. And not every single game requires that golden 60fps either.

I disagree. Look at it this way, the PSU for the xbox one fails. And all Microsoft need to do is send you a new one. The PSU on the PS4 fails, and you have to send the entire unit away for repair. The design for the xbox one isn't that lazy, microsoft just putting some forward thinking into it bringing down the cost of potential repairs/replacements, and going their own route. As for the looks, they do not bother me. It looks very much at home on my black tempered glass tv stand, and since 2013 I have not once thought "god that thing is huge". 

As for if Microsoft release a version of the console without the blu-ray. I could be tempted, if the price is right. Just have to see if it is true or not.

I have the expectation of a console after my original Xbox that they must be able to play games at the equivalent quality of a mid to high range computer since that's what the Xbox actually did at launch. The Xbone doesn't manage that at all.

A Chinese blog WPDang (honestly, never heard of them) are claiming that they've got some info that suggests that MS will launch in October, among many other things, an Xbox One Mini. 

They would achieve making it a "Mini" by getting rid of the Blu-Ray drive (it will become a completely digital machine) and getting rid of the huge amount of free space that Xbox One has. This is quite interesting considering how they defended the XboX One being so huge so it could have better cooling due to that huge amount of free space. 

APU wise, about a year ago, MS managed to shrink the consoles APU making it more efficient and more powerful, 30% more powerful and 25% more efficient to be specific, while making it 1.9 times smaller (28nm to 20nm), so they might put that inside.

 

 

Hyped? I'm not tbh, but it would be cool to see how much better would this little thing be. If they release it could perhaps Sony respond with a Slim PS4 (it's not like it isn't small enough already when compared to PS2 and PS3)? I think dropping the Blu-Ray could make it quite a problem for some people, so they'd be taking huge risks with this.

Hey if the price is miniaturized as well (should be, blue ray does add to the cost) and it has network functionality (like I can put the games in a NAS somewhere else or at least via usb hdd) I might get one. It's cheap enough to serve the dual purpose of extender with some gaming potential too.

Thats not really the problem, the whole dang chip and everything was made to handle latency of the whole cloud platform they created but everyone told that to bugger off, so we basically got some half designed piece of shit.

Well how are they going to put 30% more power hardware into this system it's effectively a new console being different from the older version. If it's software while fair enough.

1. no discs - this might be no problem for PC's, but bargain bin games are still a huge thing. Digital prices are often more expensive for longer compared to bargain bin games.

2. No Movies - many people buy the current gen consoles for the Blu-Ray player, so they can use it as a media player and watch Blu-Ray movies.

 

To illustrate this: We JUST bought an XBox One for the Library. We found 1 game for $20, 1 game for $25, and 1 game for $35. All of those games were full price ($59 or $69) on XBox Live/MS Store.

 

I think shrinking the APU with a node reduction to 20 nm would be a much more effective way to be able to pack it into a smaller case.

That thing fits a slim loading optical drive and four 2.5 inch drives on the same space that normally would use the current optical drive. Add that to a smaller cooler and external PSU and you've got something the size of a PS4 or even smaller

Certainly. Mixing a 20nm APU node reduction with a Slim Blu-Ray drive, and they could easily make a XBO Mini without compromises.
