Fury Memory (HBM) reaches 1GHz on LN2

So... There has been a polish overclocker on hwbot forums that has overclocked an AMD R9 Fury's memory to 1 GHz. He also unlocked some shaders to achieve extreme performance (If his result was validated, it would be top 60 Fire Strike Extreme score).

I do wonder what other overclockers can do with a setup like this. While the Fury and FuryX seem to be at their limits on air and AIO water (only ~+10% OC), it seems like there is huge potential under LN2. Some might mention the GPU clock is still relatively low compared to a 980Ti on air, but we all know clock rate isn't the be-all-end-all to performance (glares at 8350).

AMD did say they were an overclockers dream.

So... 100% OC? Like... 1 TB/s of VRAM bandwidth :D

This is a signature.

too bad u cant use ln2 24/7... so all ln2 overclocks are basicly invalid for personal / daily use, ln2 overclocking is more of a competition then it makes sense for real use :P

if only u could use ln2 24/7... we all would be running our cpus at 6ghz(or more ofc) 24/7

lol, yes... they did seem to intentionally leave off some adjectives, like "extreme" overclocker's dream.

I wouldn't go to the extent that the card is crap.

Huh....?

Somewhat good move - HBM

Bad move - The thick ugly pegboard design of the cards. (Though the fury has aftermarket coolers so I guess it's not always horrible with the looks.

Could you show the overclocked benchmarks next to the standard fury x benchmark numbers?

This is actually a Fury with Asus' custom PCB and components (still a mass production, consumer card). According to the source, the overclocker got 6,237 completely stock. With the unlocking tool, this Fury was running at Fury X specs as well. It got 6,756 stock speeds (8,121 10% OC). pcperspective got 7,160 with their standard Fury X. 10,000+ is pretty good benchmarking numbers, although LN2 isn't practical.

Now if only the Fury and Fury X could overclock.  It's really sad that the Fury barely beats the 980 in some benches and even ties with the 390x, and the Fury X barely beats or is less performance than a stock 980ti :c  Hopefully greenland will be good.

It would be nice to see an OC team that only did 24/7 operation so it's more realistic to everyday use. Still have the crazy OC though because that stuff is just cool.

Does using Windows classic theme actually improve performance or overclocking?

Does that void the Warranty?

Yeah... soldering parts of you card and OC:in it under LN2 would probably qualify as "warranty voiding"...
